After quitting my first job in April, I was waiting for my IIFT results. I performed decently in the GDPI process of IIFT. I was highly confident that I would make it to my dream B-School. One fine day, on April 11th, IIFT declared its results. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to the first merit list of IIFT. I was highly disappointed with my result. I couldn’t understand what went wrong. Several questions were ringing in my mind. How could I not make it inspite of a decent performance? What went wrong? But a week later there was a ray of hope. The waitlist was released and I was the 6th person in the waitlist. Now I felt confident that I would make it to one of the best B-Schools in India. A month later, in May, I finally received an admission offer from IIFT. My
dream of pursuing an MBA at
IIFT had finally come true.
Fast forward a month later, I reached the “City of Joy”,
Kolkata on a cloudy morning. I took an Uber from Howrah Station to reach the campus. On the way to the campus, my mood was similar to the cloudy Kolkata weather. I was immersed in a cloud of thoughts. How will I adapt to the Kolkata weather? How will I perform in a rigorous B-School environment? I was so uncertain about myself. Finally I reached the campus. The campus buildings, with a combination of Red and light Yellow brightened my mood and signified my bright future at IIFT. A similar colour combination can be found in the logo of
Aditya Birla Group, which signifies a better tomorrow for the group and its employees ahead. I was looking forward to make new friends in the campus. This is the first time I am living in a hostel. I was one of the first persons to reach the campus. So I had the time to explore the beautiful campus with its ubiquitous and placid lakes. This
beautiful campus along with my peers made me feel at
home. I had the opportunity to meet new people who were ambitious, driven and had great personal profiles before joining IIFT. We discussed our dreams, ambitions and insecurities. I quickly became
friends with many of my batch mates. But soon all this was about to change. We were suddenly pushed into the rigorous academic and extra-curricular environment at IIFT by the faculty and seniors. Deadlines were
sacrosanct. Missing deadlines was not an option. We had to pull all-nighters to meet these deadlines. At the same time, the Academic block in front of my balcony reminded and still reminds me of my purpose of joining IIFT. We were pushed out of our comfort zones. But the
satisfaction after completing the deadlines is immense. We became more confident in our ability to do anything and everything no matter what the hurdles were. I quickly adapted to the new environment in the campus. Seniors were like our parents at IIFT. They made sure that we adjusted to the new setting at IIFT campus professionally as well as personally. On the other hand they were strict with our assignments. 2 weeks have gone. It feels like yesterday when I joined IIFT. But the journey till now has been a roller coaster ride.

ABG Company:
I would like to
work for
Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. Currently the retail industry is one of the fastest growing industries in India. The
complex and
challenging environment in the Retail Industry and Aditya Birla Group in particular will help me develop my business skills, problem-solving skills and enhance my interpersonal skills. The
rigorous environment is similar to that at IIFT.
IIFT (before and after joining) has taught me that life is a
rollercoaster ride. There are ups and downs, and life is constantly changing all the time. But the most important thing is to enjoy this rollercoaster ride of life.
