“If you want creative workers, give them enough time to play”
Never has a statement had more relevance than this does in a B-school. Encouraging cultural diversity and social development along with the development of managerial skills has been one of the distinguishing features of MDI and this is where Sanskriti, the cultural club of MDI comes in.
So, what does Sanskriti have to offer, you ask? Projects, assignments, quizzes and lectures drain the life out of every student. The comfort of sitting back to relax, picking up a guitar, humming a tune, dancing as if no one is watching, shouting out old Amitabh Bachchan dialogues – Sanskriti is the embodiment of all these sentiments. One of the most active clubs on campus, Sanskriti hosts and organizes most of the cultural events on campus to bind the immense diversity that MDI has to offer. These are the events that make MDI more than a business school – it makes MDI students’ home, away from home.
Continuing with MDI’s mantra of carefully nurturing talent, Sanskriti provides a stage for the performer within every student and this all-embracing search for talent can be seen in their junior team selection process. The club is broadly divided into 4 verticals:
1. Jugadoos: in-charge of all events and activities on campus
2. Mukhautey: the drama team of Sanskriti
3. Mandolins: the music team of Sanskriti
4. Soul to Sole: the dance team of Sanskriti
This year is no different. Sanskriti kick started
this year’s celebration with the Flag hoisting ceremony and a skit performed by Mukhautey on the Independence Day. Then came the time to celebrate the God of new beginnings, success and wisdom – Lord Ganesh, with a
3-day event during Ganesh Chaturthi. The Sthapna, Aarti and Visarjan witnessed a footfall of over 1000 during those three days.
Giving a taste of the festivals of the South were the Keralites with Onam celebrations. Sanskriti organized special servings of traditional Keralite food which was served conventionally in beautifully crafted banana leaf plates.
On the 11th of October was organized
the flagship event of Sanskriti – the Dandiya Night. Continuing the celebrations after the record-breaking Summer Placements of the PG’19 batch, the Dandiya Night was a night of Garba mixed with Bollywood where all the students, faculty and staff members along with their families came together under one roof to experience the vibrant culture of Gujarat. This event holds a special position in the campus life of ManDevIans as it also engages the Foreign Exchange students and gives them an opportunity be a part of the Indian Festivals. The members of the MDI family were also given prizes for the Best Dressed and Best Dancer. Sanskriti’s flagship event receives accolades every year and raises the bar for all the other event clubs of MDI.
Whenever it is about festivals, there is no doubt its our family which we miss the most. But MDI and Team Sanskriti leave no stone unturned to cheer us up during each and every festival by bringing the campus into life.
This March, the same happened with the celebration of Holi - the festival of colors. And how can Holi be more enjoyable than celebrating with friends!
And amidst all the events held at MDI, how can we forget the
Soul Kitchens - those winter nights when everyone comes together at the iconic stairs of Gurukul. We sing together, we dance together and we make memories together. The event is held quite often and
jamming sessions are held around bonfire. The event is graced by Mandolins - the music vertical of Sanskriti and everyone is given a chance to sing melodies and show their talent.
The jamming sessions, Nukkad Nataks and performances indeed form timeless memories for all ManDevIans to look back at. These events organised by Sanskriti form timeless memories and endless stories for all ManDevIans to reminisce and cherish throughout their life, thus keeping the ManDevIan legacy running.
