Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is a tree with its branches spread so far and wide, it is difficult not to come under its shade and encounter the products offered by them in my day to day life. But even more important than the products, are the moral values, the ethics, the sense of responsibility that reflect an ideal organization. We are all aware of the obvious fact that our planet’s climate is deteriorating, yet each one of us thinks our contribution won’t matter in the larger picture. Here, ABG comes in and sets an example of a responsible multi-national conglomerate. On visiting all of the sites associated with ABG and its subsidiaries, we see a “Sustainability” tab in all of them. On further research, we discover, how ABG is contributing towards the betterment of the planet through various initiatives like adhering to international sustainability standards, uplifting underprivileged societies, water resource management and many more. These initiatives positively impact my life, our country and the world as a whole. Right from a very young age, the values of environmental responsibility were inculcated in me, therefore, I can strongly relate to this ideology, of preserving our present world, so that our generation and the coming generations can live long, healthy lives in a free environment. Another way of trusting a company is to invest in the company. When it comes to investing, popular investors always suggest, we should associate and invest in a company that matches our values, and not just on the impulse of making a profit. I have been associated with Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund for over three years now, ever since the beginning, I had no second thoughts in investing in this company, and I think the three-plus years of association speaks for itself.
Challenges Faced
Life is all about challenges. How we tackle these challenges and our state of mind during these challenges is what shapes us. “Somebody else will do it”, I remember saying this to myself whenever any task came up. ‘Why should I do it?’, ‘There is probably someone more qualified for this’, all these questions were just ways for me to get out of the situation, ways to run away without taking any initiative. Soon I realized, getting out of my comfort zone and taking initiative in tasks will spur my personal growth. Watching YouTube videos on how to swim will not make me a swimmer, putting myself in the water and giving everything I have got to survive will teach me profound lessons. Recently I organized my office trip single-handedly. This was my first experience organizing, learning everything from hotel, travel booking to arriving at a consensus in every decision we made. In the two years of my work experience, I was part of a small dynamic team. The members of the team changed frequently, this involved meeting new people every month, getting to know them, and synchronize with them to work as a team and solve the tasks at hand as soon as possible. Initially I was overwhelmed by the constant change, but eventually, as I settled in, interacting with new people of different ages and backgrounds came almost naturally to me. We became efficient enough to accommodate new people in the team and start working in full fledge in a maximum of two days. Working and interacting with people made me realize the importance of management, which ensures the team works at optimum capacity, this thought brought me to the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, where I’m getting a chance to hone my managerial skills. These are only small steps towards the summit, but the whole point of life is to keep climbing, aiming for the summit, reaching there, and realizing that there is another summit far greater than the current one, and scaling that one will expose us to newer summits.
