It is heart-warming to know there are those who are understanding towards people who have been declared guilty because they are different. They were not given a chance to fairly express their opinions and their perspectives. I feel proud that my county in no longer adhering to backward traditions.
A decade long struggle in court has finally achieve victory. What good has come of it? By the scrapping of this law we have upheld the right to equality in our constitution. Section 377 falsely criminalized a sexual minority. This section was having a choke hold on the right of equality, liberty, life, dignity and non-discrimination on the ground of sex.
But is a law enough to turn the tide? Does it even matter when there are so many opposing it and so many more who are indifferent towards it. Is it ok to be indifferent to it. To declare that you are neutral. This victory would be irrelevant if our society is not willing to change, if it is not willing to accept, if it is not willing to understand and most importantly if it is not willing to act.
There is a huge responsibility on the educated to change our future. We have made but a single step in a long journey, but never the less it has been a single step in the right direction.
