ABG in my life Clinical psychologist Dr Jennifer Baumgartner wrote a book called "You Are What You Wear: What Your Clothes Reveal About You," explaining what she calls the “psychology of dress”. She stresses on the impacts of our clothing choices on our lives in addition to noting how those choices are formed, to begin with. Aditya Birla Group has tapped into the science extremely well. While the group certainly makes a valuable and irreplaceable contribution in many different sectors, clothing is the sector which touches the maximum number of lives visibly. For me personally, the clothing brands owned by the group itself offers a plethora of choices to choose from. Brands such as Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen are huge in style as well as comfort. Peter England has always been my one stop destination whenever I have needed any piece of formal clothing with elegance and pocket-friendly prices. Pantaloons retail chain runs in the habit of all age groups across the country, offering a variety of stylish clothing from many brands under one roof. Inventory innovations, beautiful, spacious and well-maintained outlets, scientifically designed and arranged shelves and well-trained staff add delight to a customer’s shopping experience. Grasim industries have proven to be one of the finest linen manufacturers and have helped me with quite a few of my special occasion clothing options. Even for the purpose of gifting to the people who value in my life, whenever it is a clothing Item, brands like forever 21, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen provide ample options for both genders across sizes and age groups. Indian clothing industry would have had a very different face had it not been for Aditya Birla Group. The work in the field has been commendable. In addition to the company profits, they have successfully generated a possibility of easy, hassle-free and fun shopping experience.

Challenges – learning steps Nothing comes easy in life, or maybe, what comes easy, doesn’t seem so valuable. There are times in your life, when your patience is tested, in addition to your skills and learning. I used to be a lousy decision maker, always procrastinating my decisions to the last moment, over-thinking and double questioning my thoughts time and again, too afraid to make mistakes, too afraid to offend people. While it is important to think through all possibilities before making decisions, it is also important to stick with your decision and prove it right. When there are multiple doors open, it is important to pick one, even if it means missing out on what is behind others. I had the opportunity of taking up the role of festival secretary for the technical and cultural fests of our college. I knew that the role would require me to make quick decisions and that seemed a little challenging to me. However, the best way to get over a fear is to tackle it head-on, and that is exactly what I did. I took up the role which indeed helps me understand the art of decision making a little better. One of the most important things I learnt is being able to say no when necessary. I remember we were holding a new fashion event under the cultural festival that year and the person who had come to manage the event was behaving very negatively. That evening he called me and another coordinator of the event and started fuming about some new un-informed requirements. He demanded I let him talk to the other coordinator(female) alone. I denied this final request. He threatened to call off the event, to which I politely replied ‘Your choice, sir’. Looking stumped, he regained himself, looked at both of us and went back inside the auditorium. After that, he helped us conduct the whole event without a single more tantrum. Producing such a reply would have been impossible for the earlier version of me. The biggest challenge in life is to get ahead of your own inhibitions and insecurities. I am glad I have been able to do that in the past and hope I continue to do so in future.
