It was truly an exciting experience to be part of the interview process of SJMSOM, especially when the pandemic forced us to attend things virtually. It never seemed virtual, thanks to the platform they used during the PI process.
I’m a fresher with a computer science background, 97.97%ile CAT 2020 score, 90+ scores in my past academics. The document verification process was done and I was called into the interview room before which I had been relaxing watching my favourite Tom and Jerry cartoons which was played in the platform.
There were 3 panellists, a professor from SJMSOM(P1), a gentleman who asked technical questions(P2) and a gentleman who asked general stuff(P3).
P1: Quickly take a pen and paper and write an algorithm to generate pseudo random numbers.
Me: Did.
P1: In what way your code is random in nature?
Me: Told.
P1: Differentiate Pseudo random numbers and random numbers and what needs to be done to generate truly random numbers.
Me: Explained.
P2: What is your final year project and what is the domain on which it is based on?
Me: Explained my final year project and told them the domain was Deep Learning
P2: Explain sigmoid and ReLU activation functions.
Me: Explained
P2: What is backpropagation and how does it affect the learning progress of the network?
Me: Gave a detailed explanation and he had some doubts about it. Asked me to clarify them and I did my best to clear them up.
P3 queried some general stuff like who is the vice-president of India, who is the president of BCCI, name the CM and Governor of Tamil Nadu, who is the minister of education, etc. I answered all of those.
The panellists were friendly throughout the interview which happened for about 20 minutes. Finally, the professor said, “Keep smiling like this and all the best”. I came out of the session and shared my interview experiences with other fellow aspirants and exited.
Verdict: Converted in the merit list.
