My admission procedure has been entirely online, so was my experience of interview, while WAT and other tests were not conducted. But the mode of interview conducted by SJMSOM gave me a very close insight, of what an offline/in-campus interview would be like, through an application that enabled us have our own avatars and talk to the nearby avatars of our fellow candidates.

Profile: Mechanical Engineer from Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel.
Work experience: 0
Academic record: Consistenty above average
Extra-curriculars: Involved in student body activities in college, and held key position for organisations.
Internship: One-month long 2 summer internships.
I also have a research paper published in an ICIMA conference on “Submerged Mechanism for Underwater Monitoring”
Panellists were: Female- 1, Males- 2. All panellists were very welcoming and comforting.

I was asked to introduce myself. To which I gave a half-cooked academic introduction starting with a quote from harry potter (I’m a Potterhead), and going on with my undergrad stream, which is not so common for a girl candidate (so I get to explain why I chose mechanical). I mentioned the positions of responsibility I’ve held in college and finished with the mention of my final year project topic.

To my great delight, we had a bried discussion on Harry Potter. Being a fresher, I was asked about subjects I liked and questions on it, followed by rapi-fire of applications of components in real life, which I answered promptly.
“Why do you want to do MBA?”, was a question I had a nicely prepared for. I elaborated how during engineering, my interest spiked in management.

Next question- “Do you follow news and current affairs?” (This is a dead zone for me, so) I honestly said “No, not so much”, so they asked me simple GK questions like names of persons in authority. All of this conversation was filled with small chuckles, as I fortunately had lovely panellists. My one last question was: “What would you bring to the table if you are selected?” The interview ended on a good note since I was confident, and I converted.
