A sprawling campus with no sleep - As mentioned in our school Magazine, the IIT Jodhpur School campus is in its league. No other school even comes close. An 800+ acre campus unto itself, IITs are a veritable village of some of the most brilliant minds in business today. With several project rooms, student services, and a best Mess/canteen, a vivid connection with nature, each corner renders as a hub of student activity. The three-story student hostel with lawn and tennis court is complemented by the most impressive gym facility dedicated to student activity. Students at MBA programs must sweat it out with their undergraduate compatriots in standard school facilities.
Residence campus experience. After 14 days of quarantine, most students are allowed (who applied to join the campus) to live in campus apartments, trekking through campus for classes, study groups, and events each day. As a result, SME IIT J students are perhaps more influenced by their surrounding academic and cultural diversity than students of many other top programs who live in rooms throughout their community. However, some social events in the residence halls have become a far more prominent part of IIT J's social life due to covid. Recent students experience that the school hostel rooms are friendly enough to get acquainted with your neighbors in the halls. Still, there isn't much in the way of socializing.
On-campus, MBA programs have a distinct "vibe," and SME's is more formal than others. Classes begin and end on time, with students required to be in their seats and ready to answer a "cold call" question to begin the event. The sections spend the whole day in the same classroom entire day. Just as SME and IIT J students may cross-register for electives in other programs, SME elective courses also have students from other IIT B- Tech programs. Even though they are incredibly accomplished in their own right, these students often find the SME case method and classroom environment quite Challenging.
Many MBA programs have more clubs and Committee than SME IIT J. Nonetheless, I realized that for new schools with smaller batch sizes, such as ours, approximately 7+10 clubs/Committees is adequate for any business school student to get into; most students become heavily active in at least one club as a leader, with additional participation in one or two others. Others may instead get more intensely involved in a leadership post within their section. We'll note that this may represent significant extracurricular without overshadowing the academic experience. Students at these programs (and others) may quickly find themselves overcommitted in 3 to 5 different extracurricular organizations or more!
At SME IIT J, life outside the classroom is driven far more by the sections and informal groups of students with similar interests. While social sector attachment program nonprofit folks have organized volunteer work together, the finance people break off to do their thing, and so forth.
Popular hangouts- The most popular hangouts for IIT J students tend to be Meals on wheels and the canteen, followed by the state-of-the-art playground and the open wildlife space where you can spot beautiful fawns & doe. In addition, many IIT J students love to get out of town for the weekend. Several students will travel on the weekend of the school year to various Places to explore local businesses and exotic locations. As one of our mentors mentioned, "In my opinion, SME People will miss out on a lot of what IIT J and Jodhpur have to offer by not exploring more into the city. But, I think this has a lot to do with students wanting to hang out with each other, and the most convenient way (Covid Factor) to do so is on "Meals on wheels" over a MOMO fest.
