“The art of communication is the language of leadership”

-James Humes If one aspires to change the world, their country, or even their community for that matter, the right place to start would be, by learning the art of communication. This is exactly what the Speakers Club of IFMR aspires to achieve by aiding students to hone their communication skills. Speakers club of IFMR has time and again been at the forefront of making the students master the art of effective communication. Our event at Abhyudaya was no different. With 3 different rounds that challenge the very mettle of the participants, the event was a true test of the confidence, fluency, cohesion and body language. Debates are junctures that bring out the best of content and confidence of the participants. What is more fascinating to watch than two teams battle it out for their opinion on issues plaguing mankind? The teams fought it out on topics ranging from contemporary to the more recent ones as well. How would it be to be in the shoes of a reporter? To be given a breaking news, with very little time at your disposal, delivering a compelling story is no mean task. It requires supreme command of the language and the presence of mind to deliver something at the spur of the moment. The situations given were all the more realistic, ranging from the Mumbai Terror Attacks to the more recent Jallikattu Uprising, the participants saw it all. A B-school graduate is expected to have the rudimentary skills to do a Sales pitch, and more so, an Elevator Pitch. Given 15 seconds to 2 minutes to deliver a kick-ass sales pitch (like it happens during the short stay in an elevator), the participants had to pitch an Indian State to prospective Investors. In line with the theme of Abhyudaya, “Incredible India” offered the perfect blend of business pitching skills and instinctive thinking skills. The event went on to be a grand success and liked unanimously. RESPONSE & FEEDBACK: The event rounds were a breath of fresh air in the ever monotonous speaking events conducted across the sphere. The participants thoroughly enjoyed it, as evinced by the feedback given by participants. In fact, some of the participants went on to name Speakathon as the most creative of the lot.   WINNERS DETAILS: 1st          SHAFEEQUE SUHAIL J      - INFOSYS 2nd        SHALINI                                  - IFMR 3rd         URJA CHAKRABORTY        - XIME -Girish Kumar (SPOC – Speakers Club Batch-18), IFMR
