IIM Indore – or Planet- I as we affectionately call it, is a world in itself. Spread over close to 200 acres, and housing close to 2000 residents, the campus offers something for everybody. There are several aspects of IIM Indore, which makes it a truly unique place to live in.
Starting with the geography of the campus, its sometimes referred to as “Castle on the Hill” for a reason. There are winding, mazy roads strewn throughout the campus, with their fair share of ups and downs. Combine it with the plethora of tree types waving at you on both sides of these well-lit paths in the night, and you almost always have a walk to remember. Taking a stroll through our campus is the best medicine to almost all our problems. Our campus has banned the use of motor vehicles on campus for students, and that for a biker like me isn’t exactly a welcome proposition. But the trade-off is not exactly too bad either – fresh, unpolluted air- an absolute luxury!
Any discussion about IIM Indore cannot be complete without mention our world-class swimming pool. Indeed, IIM Indore stands out from all b-school campuses in our country, for not just the sheer quality of sports facilities, but also for the number of options we house. Several students after coming to campus pick up sports like squash and tennis, only because they have the luxury of having these facilities for free. A full sized cricket stadium, with nets and a pavilion to boot, and most importantly, gorgeous green grass – are things many b-school students only get to experience when we host competitions.
The campus is littered with food joints at several places, but the unique part about them is that they are all student-run. Starting from the Juices and More (JAM) to Aladeen, a fast food outlet to the PI shop, our own supermarket, the students themselves see to the running and administration of these ventures. These eateries are places were most students relax, and hang out with their own groups after a tiring day. One of the eateries even houses a karaoke system, and students are often seen lapping up the opportunity to try out the songs they usually croon in their bathrooms.
This is just a glimpse into what IIM Indore has to offer, and the things that make it unique. One year to go on this campus, and I’ve already started dreading the day I will bid adieu to this beautiful campus.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
With ample opportunities to grow, explore and learn, ABFRL is the place to be. Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail will be my company of choice because firstly the apparel industry is one of the most dynamic industries out there with new trends emerging every fortnight and old ones dying even faster. Brands like Van Heusen, Peter England, Allen Solly are all testimony to this. It shows that the company is constantly scanning the landscape, actively hunting for new opportunities and leaves no stone unturned to effectively utilize any opportunity that comes knocking on its door. This necessitates that one always be on his toes and constant innovation become a nature of being. ABFRL seems to have always known the secret to succeeding in this industry since its inception. This ethos the company has will always draw the crowd towards it and being a part of such an energetic environment is any young MBA’s dream.
