“YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE GREAT TO START, BUT YOU HAVE TO START TO BE GREAT.” –ZIG ZIGLAR
I am grateful to have got the opportunity to work as an intern in Punjab National Bank. Working as an HR intern in PNB taught me many valuable lessons in the field of HR. As a fresher, this gave me a great start to my journey in the corporate world. My internship at Punjab National Bank helped me gain in-depth knowledge of the various HR functions and the rules and regulations followed while taking human resource-related decisions.
It all started when I applied for an internship at Punjab National Bank. In order to secure an interview, I updated my resume according to the requirements that the bank may have from an intern and I was delighted when I got a chance for the interview. I prepared for it by focusing on my strengths. I brushed up my knowledge in the field of HR, spoke in clear and precise answers and was selected.
On the first day of my internship, I was informed about the hierarchy of the organisation, and the various functions performed by the HR department at PNB. My mentor was very kind to me and she explained my role and my project to me with patience. After seeing a demonstration, I started doing the work but often I would stumble upon some HR policy and she would help me graciously. I was made to feel like a part of the organisation from the very beginning of my internship, thanks to the amazing work culture that they have. All the employees worked as a family and not just like co-workers.
From the day I entered the organisation, till the day I left, I was surrounded by people who were goldmines of knowledge and experience. Just sitting in their company would transform a person into a learned individual. In spite of being such senior professionals, they were surprisingly humble and welcoming. Often, the Assistant General Manager sir would ask me how was I finding my work at PNB, and if I have any concerns. Other employees were also always willing to help me and treated me as their mentee.
My mentor was always willing to help me figure out work. She created a great learning environment for me where I could work and learn without inhibitions. PNB gave me the opportunity to have a practical approach towards what I had learned in the first year of MBA. The concepts I had learned in HR in my First Year at MBA helped me understand the HR policies and regulations followed by the organisation. This helped me learn quickly and easily. Working at PNB I got to learn the ground reality of various business issues and how to handle them.
I had a great summer internship where I got lessons to cherish for a lifetime which I will always be grateful for. Thanks to Punjab National Bank, for giving me this enriching opportunity.
