It is rightly said that you must have a solid foundation stone if you are going to have a strong superstructure. I believe my summer internship at Capgemini has provided me with the base for my journey in the corporate world. Being a fresher makes it even more special and valuable experience. It gives me the confidence to chart my career path in the desired direction. Scoring high in the CAT and landing into a dream institute, I thought that I've won a battle. But as soon as I set my foot in college, I realized that it has just begun. All my batchmates excelled in several hard and soft skills. I knew the competition was going to be tough. Having such a diverse set of people around me helped me level-up my thinking process. The late-night debates in dorms on topics ranging from financial crisis to policy-making helped me in improving my communication skills and thought process,
After settling down into this new space and adapting to the new reality, I decided to kickstart my preparation for the summer internship process. I read about the theoretical concepts and tried implementing them into cases that were taught to us in the curriculum. With utmost dedication and hard work, I boosted my confidence and communication skills to make myself stand out from the rest. A habit I developed during these days was to religiously follow the business news around the globe and critically analyze it from different aspects.
I still vividly remember the day when I got shortlisted for Capgemini. I was full of joy and excitement. Without wasting any time, I opened my laptop and landed on the homepage of the company. I was amazed by the plethora of services offered by the firm. I also researched the role that the company was offering. I got a sudden urge to get into this company. I studied till late at night and slept with a positive vibe for the interview day. Waking up the next day, I found that nervousness had taken over my mind, I started doubting my calibre. But a stroke of positivity rushed into me. I reasserted to myself that my preparation is adequate, and I am not inferior to anyone. The only thing that was required now was giving my best shot at it. Even though I had performed fine in each round, I was still anxious about the results. After the process got over, we all reached back to the dorm. Later, on the same evening, I got the mail that shot up my happiness level. I was on cloud nine.
My internship was scheduled to begin from April 1st in Mumbai, and I was looking ahead to the new beginnings. But due to the COVID-19 situation, the internship was declared to be a work from home one. I was pretty perplexed about what effect this transformation would have on my career. With a hundred doubts in my mind, I virtually joined the Business Services department in Capgemini. And as the induction took place, all my apprehensions were dismissed. I am obliged to the Capgemini team for such a warm welcome. Then, we were assigned project titles and were introduced to our guides. My work was analyzing the Hedge Fund & Mutual Fund industry in the European Region. I was not much acquainted with the Hedge Fund industry. Also, my understanding of the European market was limited. But my mentor and buddy helped me in every possible way. They ensured that I learn about and apply the concepts into the project.
I want to say that challenges bring up the best of one's capabilities. My internship was one such opportunity for me. With problems knocking my door every day, I was able to pass all the challenges. My learnings from this internship are immense, and I believe they would help me a lot in all my future endeavours.
