Though I am an ex-product of Tata Group’s TCS, I was really excited to begin my internship as a Management Intern with one of the group’s members “Tata Motors” because Tata is the company that helped me to realize where I should move ahead in my career! We, all Mumbai interns, had a fine induction programme and shared good talks among ourselves. Then moved to our base locations to meet our mentors, for me my location was at Tata Motors Sales Head Quarters in Mumbai. My mentor played a very crucial role in my whole Summer Internship Programme. My work was related to Marketing Elements of certain Tata product. After being briefed about my project, some words from my mentor ‘You are the owner of that product’ These words really moved me and made my work worth more interesting. I felt really good and whenever I used to complete the set goals, I used to get some sort of satisfaction that can’t be expressed in words because I truly accepted that product as mine. My mentor is a high performer and used to maintain good transparency between us and is very approachable. Wherever I felt lagging, he used to address it properly and my learning curve went up gradually. This helped me in clarifying my doubts as soon as possible. My project included following up people on the telephone and getting things done as per the deadlines. I acted as a liaison between two set of groups whose work is related to certain print ad enhancing the awareness of the product. I used to finish everything during my office hours giving my best every single day though I am monitored or not. I had supervised the execution of one pilot project having two BTL activities to enhance the product awareness and attract more hot leads at a certain location. I used to motivate the teams and push them to do better all the time providing them with constructive feedback. These marketing activities also helped me to understand how important the product mix is! It also helped me to get some customer insights. There were some other people whose support is worth mentioning. I always had one or other helping hand at difficult situations during the absence of my mentor, HRs, and other employees who used to sit beside or around me and their friends. Some senior employees, though they have 20+ years of work experience, were very amicable. I had great discussions while having lunch with them. They answered my questions and shared some of their experiences and knowledge. Yes, I formed a good network! I had many great memories in my company. Had live experiences of how boardroom discussions happen with senior decision makers of the company discussing the problems. I also observed  Business Head’s concerns (that product is his baby) while he was addressing the problems and the sense of ownership and gratitude he has for that product. I got a privilege to attend the main product launch event also. I had been invited for the product launch event and understood a good number of things from customers and management point of view A company’s culture plays a very important role in boosting up the confidence of an employee who really wants to do something worth impacting. I can heartily say, TATA is one of the best companies that really values and respects not only its resources but also their efforts and ideas. It's my true privilege to work for such a company again and getting a great mentor who truly knows how to tap the resource to exploit their productivity!
