It was a normal evening at work and during the tea break, a Gmail notification pops up on my phone. It was the acceptance letter from SDA Bocconi Asia Center. I heaved a sigh of relief.
I had experienced a rough patch in academics, followed by few unsuccessful attempts at cracking the UPSC examination. It was getting tougher day by day with every plan of mine not attaining the fruition. After a lot of contemplation, I decided to take a break from the exam preparation and work on myself, develop personally. Also, I decided to keep myself occupied while I work on myself. I took up a job at an MNC. It helped me in regaining my confidence, in socializing, in making new friends and putting me in a better place, mentally. Most importantly, it gave me the opportunity to think and take decisions pertaining to my career. I decided to put my civil service aspiration on the back-burner and pursue my MBA. I took time out every day and prepared for the entrance examinations sincerely. That feeling of not knowing what to do next to getting into a B-school of your choice was very overwhelming.
However, I knew that getting the admission is just the beginning and there will be lot more challenges coming my way. One of the first challenges, though a small one, that I faced was purchasing a formal suit before I join the B-school. I was someone who had never worn a suit earlier and I had no idea where to start. Finally, looking at the time constraint, I decided to buy a ready-made suit rather than getting it tailored. That is when Aditya Birla Group (ABG) came to my rescue. I was spoilt for choice, be it Van Heusen or Peter England, they had it all. It is just one aspect of the overall impact that the brand ABG has in all of our lives. Be it going to the neighborhood ‘
More’ store for the groceries or buying clothes for your birthday; from eating the
rotis freshly wrapped in aluminum foil (Freshwrapp) to the screens used on our smartphone; From the cement used to construct our houses to the mobile network we use to connect with our loved ones, ABG has played a role in each and every part of our life. If this was through their brands, ABG’s CSR activities in healthcare, infrastructure, education have made a big difference in the lives of millions. Some of the initiatives include setting up medical camps, immunizing children against polio, installing RO water filters and spreading awareness on HIV AIDS. They have also collaborated with the government and have worked at the ground level to ensure that the schemes are well implemented and that there is a positive change in the state of affairs. To sum it up, ABG has changed millions of lives through their brands and activities and I hope their small contributions continue to make a BIG difference in all our lives.
