Too Big Yet Too Small

            When one lists about the pioneers in the group of industries, he certainly cannot miss out on Aditya Birla Group. Not only in the country, ABG has its roots all over the world. The business activities of Aditya Birla Group spreads over 20 countries and is almost a US $ 44 billion corporation. It covers countries like India, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines, Egypt, China, Canada, Australia, USA, UK, Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malaysia and Korea. As the Chairman of the ABG Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla rightly said, “First create jobs and then provide skills to people”, ABG has employed over 120000 people across the world. This is what ABG has contributed to the world. From construction of gigantic structures to nanotechnologies, from electric materials to mechanical materials, from fashion stores to telecommunication there is nothing that doesn’t have Aditya Birla Group as a part of it. Over 0.1 million mt cement was used in the construction of Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai, it was from Ultratech Cements pvt ltd, an ABG brand. Tyres we use for our vehicles have carbon nanoparticles, a Birla Carbon product. Grasim Limited is the 4^th largest producer of insulators, is an ABG brand. A large share of the copper required for building the trains is provided to Indian Railways by Birla Copper Limited. ABG also have its roots in fashion stores through Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. Hindalco Aluminium is used to make cover glasses for smartphones, is a Hindalco Limited product, an ABG brand. Vodafone Idea Limited, one of the most topmost names in telecommunication, is an ABG brand. Bihar Caustic and Chemicals pvt ltd, Aditya Birla Nuvo, Birla Sun Life Insurance, PSI Data Systems, Birla Global Finance Ltd, Peter England Fashions and Retail Ltd, Essel Mining and Industries Ltd and the list goes on and on. ABG has its presence even in the smallest of things we use. From the clothes we wear to the needle we use, from roads we travel on to the train we travel in. This is how ABG is connected to all of us through their ventures in each sector.            

A Journey Towards Managerial Career

            What makes a good manager? The art of maintaining relationship with the people you work with. There are two kinds of people in the world, the one who are good at making new friends the other who are not. Thinking about 7 years back, I would keep myself in the later one. Being a guy over protected by his parents, I found it difficult to be an extrovert. I was not the one who will initiate friendship first. This haven’t affected me as such, as long as I was with my parents. After 12^th, for graduation, I moved to another city. Adapting there was the biggest challenge that I faced and this also turned out to be the biggest turning point for my life. The one thing that I learned during those four years was, if you are living away from your family, you should create your own which will help you to survive. The family I am talking about is friends. This friends will support you during your journey. Those four years also taught me about the importance of a group. How a group of people can carry out a task which otherwise will be impossible for a single person to deal with. A bunch of good people around you will give you confidence and will motivate you to raise your bar. The challenge that I faced turned me into an extrovert. The most important thing an MBA aspirant should have which was lagging in me, I earned during this period. ‘Challenges that you face, will change you into the person that you are supposed to be’.
