As a guy who saw his father working day in day out and his mother sacrificing her meals so that she can make sure her children’s tummies are full, I turned out to be a humble person who valued everything, but these things also made me a play it safe guy. I always played it safe, be it my academics or my career. I never took the challenge to go out and take the risk to achieve my goal.
I believe I unconsciously became part of some traps which were holding me back to face the challenges and act on them and the most prominent of them was the ‘someday’ trap and waiting for the day to ‘feel’ ready trap. I always had a dream to do an MBA from a prestigious college, but I was waiting for the right day to feel ready and most importantly I always underestimated myself. With time passing by and me being not even an inch closer to my goal, I started realizing that I need to at least start. Even though my job required me to work for 12 hours a day, I started studying whenever I had time. I made sure that I met both targets, the company and mine. Then a time came when I had to take the most difficult decision of my life. A personal problem popped up and I was supposed to leave the job and find a new one in a new city. I decided to leave my job and solved the personal problem. I also got a new job but decided not to take it. I took the risks which I never thought I could ever take. The challenges I faced were all created by me and the solutions to those challenges was also me only.
In the whole process, I learned to take the risk, understand that things will not always go as planned and the most valuable learning were to believe in yourself, to be positive and chase your dream no matter what!
