Part A
There are companies which earn a profit, and then there are some who earn respect along the way. Aditya Birla Group is one of the biggest, oldest and most respected Business house born in India, for the world. Its products are used throughout the world and are known for quality and sustainable practices.
Though there are so many brands by ABG, that you encounter multiple times in a day, but there is one brand which has a prominent place in my life, and that is, Louis Phillipe.
Born and brought up in a small village in Rajasthan, I was always fascinated by the image of a three-piece wearing a successful person, as shown in movies and TV. Stereotypical, it may be, but that was my dream – to wear that black coat someday.
When I got my first salary after my undergraduation, I spent it entirely to buy gifts for everyone. However, with the next salary, I turned to reward myself, and that’s when finally, I purchased the Louis Phillipe suit. People say money can’t buy happiness, but I guess sometimes it does.
Another brand close to my heart is Freshwrapp. It reminds me of my school day when my mother used to pack the food in the foils and gave the tiffin to me daily. Sometimes we would make small balls by crushing that foil after eating food and played cricket with it.
Right from building India with UltraTech cement and Hindalco aluminium, ABG has been the constant pillar in the growth story of India.
Part B
While in my undergraduation, there was an idea in my mind to go for an MBA after some work experience. That time, it was more of peer pressure and FOMO as everyone was talking about it. However, once when I joined my job after B.Tech. I completely forgot about this idea. Slowly, two years passed, and I realised that my learning had stalled in the present role and that my interest lies more in management aspects. However, lethargy had sprung up in me in those two years, causing me to doubt my abilities. After much self-introspection, I realised that it does not make sense to accept things as they are so early in life. That’s when I decided to aim for doing MBA.
However, the problem was that I was working in the production department. I was working on the shop floor in 3 shifts with frequent overtime due to work pressure. It was not possible for me to join any classes as my duty timing used to change every week. Further, I had to skip many tests too, because of it. There were incidents when I came from the night shift, studied for 4 hours and then left room for the afternoon shift.
During these trying times, my mother was my guiding light and constant motivation. Her sleeping schedule and daily routine used to get affected by my shift schedule and study routine. However, she supported me throughout this phase without any complaint.
It was a difficult phase, but ultimately, I attained a good score in CAT. I was able to get admission in one of my target college – DMS, IIT Delhi. This one year in MBA was one of the most learning and rewarding experience for me. More than getting admission, what this whole incident taught me was to never give up on dreams and to rise above situations.
