‘The Company making a difference’ #IIM Trichy

                                                                                                  Sanket Nikam

Aditya Birla Group, popularly known as ‘ABG’ established in 1857, is a world of opportunities for the Indian youth. A company operating in 14 industry sectors and offering numerous brands, is name in every household. Company in Fortune 500 league, through its global leadership programs is shaping future leaders. Group’s values such as integrity, commitment, passion, seamlessness, speed, reflect the fact, how much ABG cares about its customers and other stakeholders. The company’s long journey of more than 150 years is an inspiration and has made a difference in the lives of Indians. ABG products range is wide and nearly caters to most of the needs of people. I personally like to mention the telecommunication network ‘idea’ (now Vodafone-Idea). I have got my first mobile in engineering and I have not changed my mobile number neither the operator. Idea’s well connectivity and network speed are the key reasons for my long association with the same. I would also like to mention here about the customer service that company provides. The clothing brands like ‘Allen Solly’, ‘Peter England’, ‘Planet Fashion’ and many others are really popular in young generation. My personal association with ABG is during my job where I worked with thyssenKrupp Industries in ‘Cement Plant and Machinery’ division. I have worked on various projects of ‘Ultra Tech Cement’. I personally got to see the group’s emphasis on quality and timeliness. My seniors used to say, UltraTech is our best client and has many things to learn. Its values are also reflected in company’s CSR activities where company is ‘Making a difference’ in the villages of India through healthcare, education and sustainable livelihood programmes. Coming from rural background, I know the hardships Indian villages face and yes, ABG is leaving its footprint in people’s mind. I am sure the company will continue to make a difference in the lives of people in future as well.

Cut the ropes that are holding you back # IIM Trichy

                                                                                                  Sanket Nikam

Being born and brought up in the village called ‘Mahuli’ in Sangli district of Maharashtra, which has water scarcity, I consider myself lucky to have parents who in spite of difficulties provided me the best education possible. Being from vernacular medium, I always had a problem with English language. When I joined my engineering college, where I had to speak in English and this fear of English created another problem of ‘stage freight’. I was very afraid to face the crowd and address them in English. My legs used to shiver when I was on stage and all I wanted was to run away from it. I realized that this is the problem I have to dealt with it as soon as possible. So, I started working on my English and took help from my friends who were good in English. I started reading newspaper, reading English novels and speaking in English with my roommates. My English speaking skills improved as a result, but the stage freight was still a problem. I joined the club called ‘MESA-MESC’ and took the responsibility of being ‘Aptitude Developer’. I had cut all my ropes as I had no choice but to address the crowd every week regarding the various aptitude topics. On the very first day itself, I arranged a table such that my trembling legs were not visible to the audience and I kept my hands busy either solving the problem on board or changing the PPT. This was the first step and I made it. After successful delivery of the session, my confidence boosted and with perseverance in the subsequent sessions, I overcome my stage fear. I am glad that I cut my all ropes and faced my fear. I learned my lesson, ‘to fight the fear, you need to embrace it’ and since then I am putting my full efforts and currently studying in one of the best B-schools in India.
