When the country was engulfed in the chains of British monarchy, a starry-eyed boy from Pilani, Rajasthan dreamt of setting up a business right under the noses of the British trading companies. Seth Shiv Narayan Birla started a small cotton and jute trading business in 1870s at Pilani which later came to be known as a gigantic conglomerate named Aditya Birla Group. As the 20th century approached, his son Ghanshyamdas took over the reigns and led the business into the industry by starting a jute mill in 1919. While flicking through the old photographs of my grandfather , a small newspaper cutting amongst the memories of the freedom struggle caught my attention. The heading referred to an opening of a small weaving plant in Gwalior, named Grasim Industrial Ltd. This marked the entry of Aditya Birla, a 24-year old boy with the passion and zeal to transform the company into one of the best in the world of business.  Everyone around us has been associated with the Aditya Birla Group in some way or another due to its humongous presence in everyday life. The kind of trust and belief that my family and thousands of families like mine put on UltraTech Cement to keep their homes and offices safe is unimaginable. My first foray into corporate world was in Hyderabad. I was new to the city and had no friends. So, the frequency of the phone calls with the family was higher. After a lot of call dropping issues, I was suggested to switch to one of the most efficient mobile networks I have ever experienced, Idea Cellular. This one step helped me reconnect with my family and old friends and build new connections with people. In brand apparels, Aditya Birla group has been the number one Fashion and Lifestyle player. Peter England apparels have become synonymous to the prestige of wearing a luxurious brand along with maximum comfort and optimum cost. As I got admission at IIFT, I got to know that business suits were the part and parcel of the college. So, Allen Solly and Van Huesen came to my rescue as they were one of the few brands in India who catered to business suits for women. The variety they offer in their formal as well as casual dressing for both women and men along with the quality and feel of the fabric works well  for me as I have to attend long classes in suits in a humid environment.   The Aditya Birla Group brands have become an integral part of our lives without us realizing it. Their contribution towards improving the quality of life in unmatchable.  "If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." The challenges are the part and parcels of everyone's lives. Generally, it is portrayed as something to be afraid of. But, it depends on us whether we want to hide our faces and turn our backs or we want to face the challenges and come out of it as a stronger person.  Since childhood, I have lived a life full of challenges of varying magnitudes. I started my schooling from a small town in Madhya Pradesh where everything was nearby and easily accessible. When my father got transferred to Raipur, it was an unknown world for me. I didn't know the language and the culture. But, I was supposed to be comfortable with the big changes in my life. It was hard at first to enter into a new school and make your place, but with passion and perseverance, I was able to secure 1st rank in the first year there. After pursuing Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from NIT Raipur, I was recruited by an IT company working on projects using different computer technologies and languages. So, being from a different background, it was definitely hard for me to make sense of it quickly and finish the work in time simultaneously. To overcome this, I used to work 9 hours a day in office. Then, I used to go and ask doubts from people in the break and go home and implement the same issue that I faced in the morning. This process helped me learn new tools and then, I singlehandedly researched and implemented the new tool to automate the build and deployment process of the application on to the servers.   There is no alternative to hard work. If you toil hard, there would be no need to have the fear of challenges. As "smooth seas do not make skillful sailors", if you face your challenges, you will sail through them.
