th board results were out and I have ascended one more step with flying colors. As far as I remember the 1
st dilemma of my student life started as a choice to select a city for my further studies. The “Promising land” of KOTA, Rajasthan was luring chunks of my friends in its assurance of achieving AIR. I wanted to go with the flow because it was always tough for me to make new friends, and I didn’t want to leave old ones.
But destiny has its own play, I landed up in Ranchi, Jharkhand with few of the best JEE teachers in town. My father, a gov. official, has ultimately convinced me with the facts that Its definitely not the teachers who will write your paper, teachers, and location play a vital role but, on the D-Day, it’s your wit and hand that pulls things off.
My father has been an amazing mentor in my life, we (I & elder brother) never realized what it took to raise 2 kids and provide high-quality education till we moved out the city and started observing other kids and their journey.
So, during my 1
st hostel experience, I was given an allowance of 500 bucks/ months to carry out my expenses, which was the 1
st time ever I was handling any money. I used to plan my expenses throughout the month and made sure I save some. That was the time when “Branded clothes” fashion was very prominent, and I wished to give gift one to my father on his birthdays.
So, this was the first occasion I could actually gift anything to my father, of course without asking extra money from him. Cutting my expenses proved to be the right decision. I enquire about the shirt size from my mother so as to make this gift a surprise.
Now it was the time to select a brand. The importance of this gift was so paramount that I spent days reading reviews of different branded shirt. I rolled over from Blackberry to Levi’s, from Wrangler to Tommy Hilfiger.
Finally, I put my trust in Van Heusen. City’s showroom has plenty of option and after going through a few I got the one which I liked, a royal blue full sleeve.

A small gathering in my house, it was his birthday. After the cake cutting was over, I handed over the gift. The first tear on the wrap glittered his eyes. People like us living in a middle-class family does not always get to see their father filled with emotion. Whether it was my gesture or the gift but it brought in a rare moment of my life.
The pride with which he wears the shirt even today makes me feel important. The shirt is not just a resemblance of love and respect I have for him, but a treasure for him.

Failure has been an important part of my life because they have taught me to handle them efficiently. From “You are not selected” to “You are shortlisted” has made deep impact in the way I have lived my life.
It was in 2009 (after 10
th results) when I registered for the rat race. The journey has shown a number of ups and downs but was an enriching one. As being part of IIM Ranchi, PGP-1, retrospection brings a smile to my face.
From not getting selected to IIT, unable to join IIST and landing into a converted under graduation school (BIT Mesra). Getting selected by a top recruiter of the college and working for long hours along with CAT preparation, to starting a life at IIM has enriched me and broadened my vision.
I have been selected as the best GET from my batch of the graduate trainee during the training session at my last companies. Carrying out different projects and competition had brought many reorganization and rewards at the company and national level. Now as an MBA grad the journey has just begun and I am looking forward to it.
