‘Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life’

The irony of our life is we never do an in-depth analysis of the materialistic things that play a major role in shaping it. All we do is appreciate the human effort on the fore front but many a times, miss to acknowledge the greater force that has indeed ushered the change. Aditya Birla Group is one such leading potential establishment with its ever-growing business since its inception, never fails to make an impact in individual’s life. ABG with 149 years of its existence, be it finance, retail, fashion, manufacturing or telecom has marked the epitome of success. In my life too, it has been significantly leaving its footprint in every phase. As I am an avid traveler and happen to visit a lot of interior and secluded places of the country which only are connected by trains and locals, like for any Indian middle-class family, railways is the most reliable part of my life and the largest patron - Birla Copper Limited has contributed more than their fair share to this story of remembrance. My father is an employee of Coal India, and since my childhood I have seen how PSUs have considered privatization for faster and advanced resources for mining. Hindalco industries – encompassing a variety of areas like sustainable mining practices, energy conservation, recycling, environment-friendly disposal of industrial wastes, safety practices, socio-economic development of the communities is my ideal definition of an organization which has left its BIG mark as it has made lives simple and the work- simpler. “Big makes distances disappear.” I was in Class four when my mother bought her first mobile phone. Idea since then, have kept us together. I have been residing away from my family for 12 years now. Most of the memories I have with my people are those in the video calls, the festivals and celebrations I have missed but heard every bit of it is only possible because of the superior voice and broadband connectivity that Idea – Vodafone offers across India. The phone call I made when I got my first job offer, the call when my mother was reported stable after her operation – Idea has been a part of every memory and is still going strong. There are a lot many perceptions of how Aditya Birla Group has connected with every person and made an impact. With every innovation and business prospect ABG has undertook, their main motive is to actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which they operate. This has inspired me a lot in making the biggest decisions of my life with a clearer perspective of how to choose a sustainable career path which will help in advancement of the society.

‘How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far’

Every person has a unique journey of life. I secured AIR 600+ in GATE the year I passed out from BE, but was in a dilemma about the decision of getting admitted in the college. I didn’t know where my interests lied. I had failed in life every time I had to decide what I want to achieve. The first biggest challenge - My ambition of what I want to be was always blurred. I had short term goals but never a futuristic one. It took me 3 years after engineering to realize what I actually want to pursue. Every time I tried my hand at a specific career (GATE, IES, literature), even though I fared well, there wasn’t any inner satisfaction associated to that. While I was a kid, I always wanted to be a civil engineer, just like my father. The interest faded away with time and I thought I wanted to be a gadget freak who can fix everything and it was then I joined electronics. I was preparing for masters in engineering but was still unsure of pursuing it. I failed my parents multiple times as they left this decision solely on me. Convincing parents on loosing on such an opportunity was difficult. The only thought that wavered in my mind was will I be happy in doing what I am unsure of. Lucrative job offers could have been the push to consider to get into a reputed institution, parental and social pressure was building up but I was certain of not doing something which will lead to a fake unsatisfied life and career. I joined IT and worked as an Android developer as I developed the interest in coding while in second year. I never regret the option I left behind. I always want to be pretty sure about the choices I make in life and strive to be the best in every way possible. The second biggest challenge I faced in my life is impatience. Though I was impatient, I was highly dedicated to the work I am assigned with. I proactively take up challenging work and preferred to be preoccupied. Though I had found my long-term goal, I was impatient to manage work and preparations for post-graduation at the same time. I had to choose between the prospects of career growth in work place and higher education. I had to manage time and energy accordingly. It’s true that the output is only visible when we set our priorities right. But with greater power comes greater responsibilities and also maturity on how to handle the situations and people. My workplace has given me the best mix of exposure, courage and opportunities of working with the highest degree of management, mentors and managers who have supported me and provided me feedback as and when required. This has improved my patience and working procedures and led to perfection. While overcoming the challenges of life, I have succeeded in understanding that introspection is the key to success. When I understood my strengths and weaknesses completely, I overcame the fear of losing and gained the audacity to fulfill my dreams and prove my worth to be here in one of the most reputed B-Schools of the country.
