The journey that began with fear and trepidation….. All B-Schoolers invariably remember the first day when they entered their ‘dream’ colleges. Yes! ‘Dream’ college for some right at the outset and for some others, the college that earned this status during their glorious journey of two years spent there. For most, this day is filled with apprehensions, wariness and uncertainty with respect to what their B-School tenure and their future in general has in store for them. Students, irrespective of their age and past experiences can never stop wondering about how their life is going to be – like home or like their undergrad college, whether it will be exciting or extremely nerve-wrecking (the most common perception amongst B-School aspirants). Well, it goes without saying, after spending the most memorable two years of one’s life here, you cannot help but laugh out loud at these silly doubts at the outset. ……and was filled with highs and lows….. Business Schools are centres of learning where our country’s best minds are trained to become future leaders. As we all know, if we do not face harsh challenges in life, if we do not have our fair shares of failures, we will surely lose our ability to cherish the genuinely beautiful and happy times. Therefore, no matter how much hard we try we cannot avoid those bloopers and faux-pas while in college, they have the effect of giving you the confidence that failures are essential components of life that will mold you into what you eventually become. As Mark Twain has rightly said, these embarrassing moments may have made you want to hide your face in the ground, but these are precisely those moments that will become the most memorable anecdotes that you will one day share with your grand kids.

….ends with dollops of nostalgia…. With the beautiful journey of one’s B-School tenure coming to a splendid end, it is common to find emotions of wistfulness amongst the ones who would be leaving their revered campuses in a few days’ time. The life ahead awaits to embrace them with open arms - unimaginably great jobs, amazing pay-packages that, in a few years might make them wealthy enough to buy their own private yachts, chances to meet all those eminent people who they would only have dreamt of, opportunities to globe-trot around the world or maybe even to a different planet but alas, the memories of their remarkable two years at their B-School will never cease to give them a feeling of longing to re-live those good-old days. No amount of material pursuits can facilitate them with the sort of friends that they made there... their friends for life! Their ornate mansions will never be able to give them the same sort of warmth that once, their hostel rooms used to. No matter how much ever they must have criticized their mess food all throughout their B-School term, they will not help but crave for those very half-cooked chapattis and the tasteless subjis. The Michelin star restaurants will definitely give them better food but not the sort of ambience that they used to enjoy in the college mess.   Well, I know my seniors are going to hate me for making them feel terribly nostalgic but I would like to take this moment to try and list a few things that will be missed the most by them a couple of weeks from now. The beautiful surroundings of IIM Kozhikode. Yes! It is for a reason that our kampus is called ‘God’s own Kampus’. Ours is one of the very few B-Schools that has a suicide point, a sunrise and a sunset points of itself well within the vicinity of the kampus. Will the humdrum city life going to give us the same joy as the late-night or more appropriately early-morning strolls with their favourite people around the kampus did !? Waking up to a refreshing view from their hostel balconies with serene, blue clouds to greet them, are their mornings ever going to be the same? Those times spent in the eateries on kampus with High Octane (Kafé on Kampus) being everybody’s favourite, were priceless. I am sure memories of those Krescendo (Music Club) nights, enthralling performances by Footvibes (Dance Club) and of course, the extraordinarily entertaining in-house dramas organized by Theatrix (Drama Club) will all make them feel that they are leaving a part of their life behind.

Well, in the end, all one can say is live your life to the fullest while you are still in your B-School. The sort of opportunities that it has to offer to you, will not be available anywhere else. Make the most of these opportunities, shed off all your inhibitions, try and test different waters, make friends for life… and to the ones who have done it all - B-School life is highly addictive. All the best to the ones who are on their way of trying to get rid of this majestic addiction!   - Venu Merh
