It was in 2004 that a mobile phone first arrived at our home and for a long time after that, the first thing that used to come to my mind when I hear of Aditya Birla Group is the Idea Cellular. Idea Cellular has been an integral part of most of my life, from using it through my parent’s phones to having it as my personal SIM ; from daily SMS packs in early years to data recharges for Facebook and WhatsApp to contact with friends in recent times; from Abhishek Bachchan’s “what an Idea Sirji” to “ #MeriRealLife”, it has always been there. As I grew, I realized how surrounded I was by other brands of the group. Pantaloons became the shopping destination not just for my apparel needs but also while brainstorming over the gifts to be given to friends and family. UltraTech cement practically became a part of my life during the construction of our house. It literally served as the ‘Engineer’s choice’ when both the engineers that we took the reference from suggested the same brand. With the addition of Peter England and VAN HEUSEN for suiting choices, Aditya Birla Group became a highly integral part of my life. It certainly eased my journey in various ways, a journey that was filled with opportunities which initially took the mask of challenges and I would like to believe that I was able to gather best of learnings through those challenges as did ABG in its path to glory. To elaborate a little on that, the major events of my life thus far can be categorized into 4 major parts,
My father being an LIC employee gave me a great opportunity to explore various places, people and cultures. It certainly was challenging, moving from place to place and shifting from one school to another, with new people; new place; new culture but at the end of this phase, all of this helped me enhance my adaptability and flexibility.
After coming out of the rat race during my 11th and 12th standards, B.Tech at NIT Kurukshetra provided me with a massive platform to explore and enhance various of my character traits. This was the place which actually made me realize the importance of people and need for a person to move out of the comfort zone. I joined the college magazine, a social and cultural club and coordinated in organizing and taking part in several college events.
Being a Delegate Coordinator at the Global Leadership Forum at the World Cultural Festival was one of the greatest opportunities I’ve had in my life which pushed me to my extreme limits but at the same time provided an amazing learning opportunity.
My stint as Graduate Engineer Trainee provided me with a good deal of knowledge and organisational understanding along with providing me with and opportunity to put my technical and managerial knowledge to good use and helped me enhance my team management and critical analysis skills.
Through these and many such events that I came across at various phases, I was able to realize that it is the challenges that actually enables one to develop oneself and taking up responsibility judiciously in as many things as one can is the best thing a person can do to himself.
