Overcoming challenges despite GLOBAL odds There’s one thing about dots. They always join. When I look back now, I can see why the hardships were necessary to make me a strong human being that I am today. To gather the courage to face them head-on is the most precious lesson I have learned in my life. Post-engineering, I decided to work for a while in order to gain some perspective on corporate affairs and try new things which garner my interest. During the course, I also decided to try investing in equity instruments. The frisson of earning decent returns on my meager savings furthered my interests in the markets. My father, a CA, extended his support. To apply to my learning, my cousin entrusted me with the responsibility of investing his savings in order to earn decent returns. This was a part-amount for his enrolment in Himalayan base camp trek the following year. Being an amateur investor, I tried my best to chase the bulls but the bears seemed to like me better. Some investments used to turn-out well but others just nose-dived beyond recovery. The net-result always turned out to be negative. The effect of trade-wars around the world was very much evident from my portfolio. Although I tried to stay motivated as much as I could, things never seemed to work out. Since it wasn’t just my own money, it was a pill I couldn’t just swallow. I felt depressed and it reflected in other avenues as well. But, life had other plans in store. I came across an IPO in the Indian market. I was largely skeptical to invest anymore and the chances of allotment were very slim. But since the company and the parent group had a great repute, I decided to take a leap of faith after a great deal of research. To my surprise, I got the shares I had applied for and the stock sailed 60% within a week of listing. I recovered a huge chunk of my losses and was able to return my cousin’s investment back to him, although with no gains. I swore to never invest in speculation post this incident and invested time in in-depth research before investing money in any stock. As of today, I have a portfolio with decent returns. This incident reaffirmed my belief in the quote that success is just one step away from the point where you decide to quit.

Why is Aditya Birla Group #BigInMyLife People associate their favorite products with their respective brands. They are oblivious of the fact that many a time, the ones which meet their expectations the most, come from the same conglomerate. I was no different until a few years ago. Nevertheless, the dots connected here as well, leading to ABG. Allen Solly, Van Heusen, and Peter England have been my all-time favorites when it comes to formal wear. I also found their footwear and accessories collection very intriguing. Pantaloons is my go-to store for anything and everything when I just want to shop, but don’t know what. You never leave the store empty-handed. My intangible love for Vodafone Idea has never seen the side of betrayal. It has been as close to me as others because of it. Hindalco was our one-stop shop when my firm was in need of troughed roofing sheets. My mother believes that I eat fresh food when it is wrapped in Freshwrapp. ABG has been the contributor of ‘Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan’ in its truest sense. Owning an ABG is a matter of pride for me and its impact resonates in my life, so much that I cannot think of a day without an ABG product around me.
