The Vinod Gupta School of Management had the opportunity of hosting Mr Ravi Kant, Ex-Managing Director of Tata Motors Limited. With years of experience in leadership positions across a plethora of organisations, Mr Kant brought with him top-notch management and negotiation skills to offer to the MBA batch of 2019-21. With a short excerpt on the key issues facing his organisation during his stint as the MD of Tata Motors. Structuring his lecture in easy and comprehensible pointers Mr Kant explained the need for being punctual and disciplined to be a good manager. A good manager above all puts the needs of his team before him. A team of all the right people doesn't always work, it's only when the hunger to prove oneself is satiated, that great precedents are established. History is strewn with examples of young professionals who have the hunger and the will to perform and take initiatives at the face of uncertainty. Citing examples, Mr Kant then told the batch the story of the genius of young and bright new recruits who handled and averted a crisis that plagued the seasoned managers for quite some time. Empowering workers and conveying the support of the organisation is instrumental in bringing out the best in Gen Nexters. Nurturing the right talent is essential for continuity of leadership. Continuing further he elaborated on the concept of outperforming the competition at every step, even when the gap between the market leader and the rest is sufficiently large. He then went on to highlight the necessity of taking market research seriously to develop brand equity. Leaving the batch to reflect on his lessons he closed the session with a beautiful quote, a testimony to a managers life - "Call others into leadership with you".
