"Sometimes the road of life takes an unexpected turn and you have no choice but to follow it to end up in the place you are supposed to be."
Something similar happened to me. I had a dream of becoming a pilot and almost reached their by scoring excellent marks and getting 2nd rank but I could not fulfil that dream because of certain criteria.
I changed my focus to achieve something else and started my journey towards my dream. I completed my Bachelor of Engineering and joined Infosys at Hyderabad. But I had a bigger plan in my mind, to not stop at one place and keep growing. I started preparing for MBA entrance examinations. I was also trying for other job opportunities and eventually got one, to work as Assistant Manager at Tata Steel plant in Boisar which is a small industrial town 120 kms north of Mumbai. I had to choose between the two and I selected Tata Steel as it was the best opportunity for me at that time. When I joined the company, my life took 180 degrees turn. At Infosys, I had to work 5 days a week with flexible timings. I used to work from my designated cubicle with all amenities easily available. It was easy for me to think about higher studies and prepare for the same. In short, my life was going smooth and there was a proper work-life balance which was all I needed to prepare for entrance examinations.
But everything changed when I joined Tata Steel. I was given the role of shift in-charge in the operations department looking after the production of Tata Tiscon and wires. This entailed working in three shifts round the clock and 6 days a week. During night shifts I was the only person responsible for the whole plant which constituted 70 union employees and 30 contract workmen. The temperature at the shop floor was close to 45 degrees. At Boisar there was no one whom I could say, acquaintance. No preparatory classes. These were the challenges I faced when I left Hyderabad for a better job. I learnt that every good thing has a drawback.
All this was very hectic for me and the dream of pursuing an MBA was appearing to be vanishing from my mind. Complete September took me to adjust to the new surroundings. All this made me think that whether the decision I made was correct or not. But I never stopped trying and started studying after my shifts. Time passed I wrote exams and gave my best. Today I am a part of a reputed institution NMIMS fulfilling my dream of pursuing an MBA.
After all this, I learnt that life is uncertain but each part of the journey gives us some takeaway and some bittersweet memories which we carry throughout our life.
