This is an article on LRDI tips for CAT by a current FMS student with 99.8 percentile in the LRDI section in CAT 2018.
CAT tests not only your subject intelligence but also your mental intelligence and patience. Being patient while attempting questions is very important.
LRDI tips
For years, LRDI section is one of the toughest section of CAT, although last year, it was of moderate difficulty. To remove that fear for LRDI, the only tip is to practice. Practising sets of different difficulty levels helped me a lot to excel in the LRDI section whether it is of mock questions or the actual CAT questions. Also, try to attempt past CAT papers (2017, 2018 and 2019 specifically) and time yourself to get accustomed to the test environment.
LRDI section consists of 32 questions which consist of both reasoning as well as data interpretation questions. Some students think that they are good in only one of them so they try attempting questions from one of them in CAT whether it is easy or difficult, which ultimately wastes their time. Sometimes questions from other topics are very easy to attempt and that is the judicious decision you have to make at that time which questions to attempt first to maintain your accuracy and save time.
CAT 2017 LRDI section was very tough and so the cut off was also low. Therefore if you find this section to be too difficult, do not lose confidence. Try attempting all sides and logic you can think of as difficult section will have low cut off also which will ultimately improve your percentile so maintaining confidence at that time is very important.
Try avoiding the use of a calculator as it will waste your time and practice to improve your own speed of calculation as an online calculator is not that much easy to use during exam time.
Focus more on the accuracy part rather on attempting more questions. LRDI section is easy to maintain accuracy and so if you are attempting any puzzle then try to get all of its questions correct in one go.
If on solving any puzzle you are not able to get one of its questions solved then do not waste time on that and attempt next puzzle, at the end if time persists go to it again and try again to solve because time management is very much important in this.
These were some tips on how I was able to excel in LRDI section and got admission at FMS.
TRUST your hard work and blessings of your parents and GOD and rest for some days before CAT to let your mind be free..
All the best for CAT 2020!
