Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
I vividly remember how most of the weekends during my childhood were spent visiting a
mall. The urge to window shop was never complete without visiting Pantaloons, which is
still my mother’s favorite outlet.
“In love with life, in love with fashion; Rewrite rules retain values”, this tagline doesn’t only
define Pantaloons, but retaining values is something which ABG excels at. The innumerable
apparels from ABG in every sphere are incredible. I had my first campus interview during my
graduation and I remember that I got my first formal suit from Van Heusen and it certainly
gave me the confidence I needed. From Allen Solly, everyone’s choice for smart and casual
looks to Forever 21, which is every girl’s go to place, ABG has created one of the most
extensive fashion and retail network. I think that is the USP of ABG, it has created brands to
accommodate every stratum.
“Bade Iraado Me Jaan Daal De” is one ad campaign which shows how demonstrating simple
values can create huge impact. In India, houses top the priority list. From the very beginning,
every individual dreams to have a house of his own and thus it is very important to put your
heart and soul into building a house. We had a house in Gurugram which belonged to my
grandparents but it had to be eventually rebuilt. My father, who took the responsibility to
build this house with utmost focus on the products he chose, trusted UltraTech cement, a
product of ABG. He still takes pride in building the house and the most important but
invisible factor was the cement that was used.
As ABG says, “Service to society is at the very heart of our value system”, this incredible
service has shaped my value system since the very beginning.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so
far?
“What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”. This is the saying which has helped me get
through the most difficult phases of my life.
I have been a very sincere student throughout my life. I have been good in academics,
known what to do, how to execute and was the only one placed during my campus
placements in graduation college. So, in a nutshell, life had been pretty sorted for me.
But during my first year at work, I realized the learning curve had started declining and
pretty soon, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next. Though, MBA was always on the cards,
it was the execution part I wasn’t sure of. Working hours and the long commutes made it
difficult to prepare along with the job. But this was the part which was still manageable, it
was the pressure of performing well and meeting the expectations while working in a job
which didn’t excite me anymore. This just made me anxious and eventually I decided to quit
my job and focus my full attention to prepare for entrances.
This phase too was not easy and was full of hurdles. Fear of missing out, mock tests, mock
GDs, mock interviews, not performing well, trying again, all this was exhausting. But this is
what got me here. It made me realize that best doesn’t come without failures or challenges.
The whole journey, now in retrospect, seems like the most fruitful one. It made me
emotionally and mentally strong and got me where I wanted to be. I guess, in the end that’s
the only thing that matters.
