Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life

A typical Monday morning begins with a video call from my mother. From “What an Idea, SirJi!” to “Stronger. Together. For You” – The Vodafone Idea network, India’s leading telecom service provider has transformed the way we communicate by developing infrastructure and maintaining pace with the current disruptive technologies, while delivering delightful customer experience.

Next, I step out on my way to college on an Uber via the Bandra- Worli Sea Link. I understand why Ultratech Cement is definitely “The Engineer’s Choice” when I came to know that 0.1 million metric tons of Ultratech Cement went into the construction of the Bandra- Worli Sea Link. I was working on a project that involved the safety of Indian commercial vehicles. I was delighted to know about Birla Carbon, which makes car tyres safer, fuel efficient and more sustainable.

I am interested in trading and financial services and thus, I make it a point to monitor my portfolio regularly. Aditya Birla Capital Limited, one of the largest Asset Management Companies in India provides end to end financial services not only to corporate customers like me, but also to retail customers. It’s a new city for me and we, Bengalis love to flaunt. On my way back home, I planned to check out the latest fashion trends in this city.  And it was an obvious choice, who else than the market leader in fashion, Pantaloons? From the simple striped formals of Peter England to the Graphic tees of Forever 21, I loved it all. And guess what? All of this from the same house of Fashion, the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. Coming back home, I was a little disturbed when I read about the current water crisis in different parts of India and how environmental damage is slowly taking a toll on us. But, then, to my utter contentment, I read on the internet about how Aditya Birla is working on a number of areas towards sustainability, towards a greener, cleaner and healthier future.  “The Future is exciting. Ready? “

How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far

Right from my childhood, I believed in consistency and belonging to a family which laid a lot of emphasis on quality education, I made it a point to be regular and consistent in my academics throughout. But you never know, what future has in store for you. Failure to perform well in any of the national level joint entrance examinations came as a shock, a heartbreak for me, but, more importantly, taught me how to deal with failures.  We shifted to Kolkata from my hometown and this city had a lot to offer. Although I could not secure an admission in a government college, I made it to the best private college of the state. Engineering taught me a lot of things apart from academics. Till then, I had not taken part in much of extracurriculars, but, in college, I had made it a point to try my hand at other extracurriculars. Initially, I was very shy and could hardly perform well in other extracurriculars, yet my friends and other mentors motivated me not to give up. From being an incompetent, shy and introvert person to participate or take up any extra curriculars to managing end to end execution of college fests, hosting entrepreneurship events on campus and setting up the Green Revolution Club of my college, I had changed a lot in the 4 years of engineering. I understood ground realities and prevailing problems in society and I had an urge to address them in whatever way I could. I started teaching mathematics and science to three underprivileged children of my area. All of this was fine, until the D-Day came for placements. I knew something was seriously wrong when even after clearing the initial rounds, I could not make a final convert in three of my dream companies. Istudied harder, put in maximum effort and finally managed to bag a job in the largest IT firm of the country. Six months into the job and I started realizing that I wanted something more challenging and wanted to work in collaboration with all verticals instead of focussing just on one function. I knew MBA was my calling and I didn’t want to mess it up the way I had done my JEE. This time, I was determined to secure admission to the best B-Schools of the country. Being the technical lead at my project, it was extremely difficult to manage office work with MBA preparation. But I learnt the art of prioritising things and also time management. Finally, it was the result day and I was delighted to find that I had scored well in all of the MBA exams and had secured final converts to a number of good B-Schools. It was a dream come true for me.
