What does today’s youth do when they are bored with life or have too much time at hand? They choose to pursue a course named MBA. The abbreviation might just stand for Massive Bank Account for few. After months of slogging to crack the most coveted CAT, they finally land up in some college (which usually isn’t the one they dreamt of) and ponder over their future goals as the time gets tough with classes, assignments, presentations, placements and what not. A widespread perception about MBA being associated with just big money is such a fallacy. There is so much to pursuing an MBA. For instance, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar provides the perfect platform to its students to rediscover themselves and follow their passion. A holistic development should always be the goal of any student. Indulging in the extra-curriculars presents you clandestine scenarios that theories don’t teach. The Late-Night Caffeine not only helps people to bond but the pressure of the course just makes one better and mentally stronger. Student activities, committees, and the lectures can provide you with an experience second to none. Big bucks can never be motivating enough to survive the rigour of MBA. One needs to enjoy life. Cultural activities and organizing fests are some of the few things that not only you can enjoy and will help you work in a team but also learn a lot as well. For instance, approaching a company for sponsorship teaches you a lot about sales and improving your negotiation skills. Cultural committees allow you to rediscover your inner talent and showcase them to the world. Regular presentations allow you to shed your inhibitions and speak up confidently. And XIMB provides everything to you, a world in itself to rediscover yourself. The MBA rigour might be tough, but as the saying goes “If you believe in something, work nights and weekends and it won’t feel like work”. So enjoy the overall ride rather than worrying about the destination. MBA to many may be about getting a bigger job, wearing a suit and getting into the corporate life, but if you dig deeper, there’s so much into it that even two years won’t be enough to savour it. So, don’t just chase the destination. Enjoy the journey ‘cause sometimes, the journey teaches you a lot about your destination; more than you ever knew in the first place. The brightest example? Right on your TV sets as you watch a cricket match, Harsha Bhogle- an IIM-A Alumnus.   Sidhant Sourav MBA-BM 1st year XIMB, XUB
