The world has witnessed unexpected transformations in its environment in recent times which has changed the backdrop of working completely. This pandemic has shown us just how vulnerable businesses can be and has made us realise the gravity of resilience and the pressing need to incorporate it in our routine. Embracing and adapting every aspect of change, calmly restructuring one’s thoughts and rethinking rebound strategies have become the basic ingredient for excellence. Encapsulating this concept, Purvodaya, the annual business fest of the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur would be centered on the theme “Excellence through resilience” and will be held from 5th February this year. The 3-day long event will be graced by the esteemed presence of our Chief Guest, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Hon’ble Minister of Education and our Guests of Honour, Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, CEO at IndiGo and Mr. Vinod Gupta, Patron of the School.
Excellence has been the elixir the human soul carves for but this pandemic has taught us that it can only be achieved with an intrinsic attitude of resilience. This realisation has led to new adoptions and the need to restructure leadership. Leadership has to be reimagined with the dynamic environment because it not only encapsulates the growth of an industry but also the livelihoods and living standards of many. A leader has long been removed from the singleton role of being the head of a ruthless profit-making machine. He is now an amalgamation of an adult who takes informed decisions for the sustained growth of his company, a parent who captures the strengths of his colleagues and builds the business around it ensuring parallel growth of both and a child who is willing to learn and listen what may come his way.
The Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur will be hosting the Leadership Summit, 2021 held under Purvodaya. Keeping in mind the need to capture the central idea of resilience and the changing definitions of leadership in the present era, the theme of the Leadership Summit this year is “Reimagining Leadership: Building resilient and sustainable business”. To build on its framework to impart cutting edge management education and develop innovative and transformational leaders, academic-corporate synergy has been a key focal area for the institute. Its cutting-edge pedagogy and corporate guest sessions serve to provide a vibrant intellectual atmosphere to the budding managers.
The Leadership Summit brings together distinguished luminaries from the corporate world to a common stage to put forth ideas in front of the young minds that carves out new thought processes and perspectives. The 3-day business extravaganza also encapsulates a plethora of events ranging from Samvaad, the pre-inaugural event where entrepreneurs and business leaders set the ball rolling with their unique insights and experiences to Reminiscence, a platform where the distinguished guests from the rich alumni base stroll down the memory lane to their alma mater and relive their experiences.
Purvodaya also encompasses an array of inter B-school events such as the Leader’s Challenge and Think Vent organised by the Marketing and Advertising Club, Sumantran and Guesstimates by the Consulting Club, Mulyankan by Finterest and many more provide unique opportunities to the students to prove their mettle in diverse business domains. Nurturing the creative flair among students, our photography club, Flash brings upon its event, Destello. The CSR Club, Saamanjasya organises Aalekh, an article writing competition focusing on topics around social issues. Competitions such as Modus Operandi by ScOpe (the Supply Chain and Operations club) and Synergy by Drishtee Capital (the Investment club) test the participants’ proficiency to provide innovative and feasible solutions on real-life scenarios in the field of Supply Chain & Operations and Share Market. In addition to the above, events like Srijan and Vichaar by the Entrepreneurship Cell and Quizzard by the Quiz Club which adds to the innovative quotient. Though in a virtual format, the discussions and competitions held on this stage will definitely help students gain a better understanding of the real-life problems and devise strategies to overcome those. This will also help them envisage changes that have been adopted in leadership and ways in which our approach can build around resilience and sustainability to strive for excellence.
