It’s that time of the year for B Schools when the placement season gets underway and management hopefuls see their dreams turn into reality.
Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management (VJIM), Hyderabad one of the top management destinations of Hyderabad certainly has a reason to cheer because the placement season has gotten off to a solid start. Several top rung companies have made their presence felt on the campus and many of them are repeat recruiters, which is clearly a feather in the cap for the institute.
According to Prof. R.Ramarao, Chairperson, Placement, “This placement season certainly appears to be even better than the last season as can be seen from the early kick start in placement numbers. Like the previous years, Marketing is the leading domain followed by Finance.” However it’s heartening to see that Operations, which was expected to see a downfall is holding its own in the current placement season. Big name companies from different sectors are hiring the cream of the talent from VJIM, Hyderabad already.
Some of the top recruiters during this placement season so far include L&T Finance Ltd. Capital Via, Deloitte, Global Data, Cognizant, TIME, Berkadia, Progressive Digital Media, among the long list of names. Interesting thing to note is that many of the marquee recruiters at the institute are coming back season after season to cherry-pick VJIM graduates. Prof. Rao admits that it has a lot to do with the alumni of the institute. “The role of alumni in this is highly contributory and commendable. We have programs and events to stay in touch with the alumni through different means, which certainly helps in the overall growth of the school,” he adds.
Now there will be a new list of alum that will become glorious ambassadors for the institute. Some of them have made a dazzling start to their careers. Harjas Kour, PGDM Class of 2015 who got placed with Global Data in the office of Associate Analyst is one of them. She talks about her experience at VJIM when she says, “On my first day here, I was so nervous to introduce myself in front of 200 people. Today I laugh about it because I am confident and ready to take on all types of challenges. Classroom diversity to overall learning at the institute have groomed me into a professional who is ready to take up new challenges.”
Some of the highlights of the PGDM program at VJIM are: the model of POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), which encourages students to have a divergent and convergent thinking process; Socratic Method of teaching is also employed at the institute that aims to provide sectoral specialization in Business Analytics, Pharma, Banking, Insurance, Project / Construction Management besides subject specialization. Together, these practices help in creating a comprehensive learning experience for students.
But Prof. Rama Rao believes there is another important element that goes into preparing students for the placement process. “Summer Internship at VJIM is becoming more contributory to its placements through increased Pre Placement Offers year after year. We expect the same trend to continue this year too. Moreover it offers students the real life corporate experience, which prepares them for the industry and the challenges that lay ahead of them,” he explains.
With the results speed tracked, it’s not uncommon to see the payback period for students to be around one to one-and-half years. In fact, it is less than a year for some of them and that means the ROI factor that management students often think about is well looked after. But Somya Chhadha, who has been hired by Deloitte in the office of Independence, Compliance & Risk has the last word when she says, “I had no fixed goal in life but VJIM’s PGDM has turned me into a professional with clear cut objectives in head. It has given me the cutting edge advantage in the competitive job market today.” And if the initial placement results are to go by, then that will be the case for most of the students at the institute.
