Part A – Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life

It was 29 December 2017 when I bought my first share of Reliance Communication at price ₹36.15 per share and sold it for ₹13.7 per share on 11 May 2018. I made forfeiture because I was speculating on reliance communication without considering fundamental and technical analysis. After this, I was so disappointed that I stopped trading in the equity market. One day I came in contact with blogs regarding the mutual fund and Systematic Investment Plan. I started researching an asset management company (AMC) and interestingly came in contact with Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL). Considering the previous losses, I choose diversified SIP of ₹3000 in Aditya Birla Sun Life Pure Value Fund-Regular Plan (G).
I started analyzing fund portfolio diversification. It teaches me the allocation of shares among various financial instruments, industries, and other categories. Diversification aims to maximize returns by investing in different areas that would each react differently to the same event. Diversification of Aditya Birla Sun Life Pure Value Fund-Regular Plan (G) is 32.19% is in large-cap stocks, 22.28% is in mid-cap stocks, 44.37% in small-cap stocks. The diversification gives me an idea about large-cap, mid-cap, small-cap, etc. I started observing the behavior of stocks in the portfolio in accordance with their sector and started analyzing why they are affected positively or negatively with or without positive and negative market sentiment. This taught me the importance of fundamental and technical analysis during buying and selling shares. It also helps to understand growth, stability against volatility, relative strength in the industry, debt to equity ratio, P/E ratio, management, and dividends.
As an AMC, Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL) impacted me a lot. At present my portfolio stands for 3.5L. The major stocks in the portfolio are reliance industries Ltd., SBI, VIP Industries, etc. Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL) taught me how to win a race between bull and bear and proud to be part of such an ambitious group.
Part B – How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far
After holding a Mechanical Engineering degree, I step into professional life by joining a leading engineering construction company as a graduate trainee engineer on 21 Sep 2015. From day one, I have nurtured a dream of becoming a part of the top-level management team of a firm. The company trained me in repair and maintenance of construction equipment. After my confirmation, I was designated as Plant Engineer and handed over with a complete departmental operation of an Earthmoving Section at their regional workshop.
After taking a charge, I was surprised by the inputs given by the team and past records. The section was lagging on various fundamentals. The basic infrastructure was unavailable such as engine and transmission overhauling room, storage space for machine dismantled parts and assembled parts, testing bench, etc. Also, section performance was at the lowest level due to the unavailability of standard operating procedures, lack of team coordination and motivation. I started consulting with my immediate reporting boss and other section heads regarding the revamping of the section after going through root cause analysis. I started studying models of effective workshops, assembly lines, and inventory optimization. Also, I referred to various books and blogs for effective team management. I designed some infrastructure models through Creo Parametric 1.0. After all, I proposed my plans regarding the necessary change in infrastructure and team building. I was impressed by the many companions for my suggestions and proactive behavior as they were questioning about my experience and leadership quality. Through a lot of scrutinizing, I got 6 months timeline and for necessary changes.
Firstly I started constructing a strong and motivated team by implementing a 360 feedback system, organizing training and motivational workshops, hearing suggestions and minimizing the problems solving time. The results were getting positive. Alongside we build some closed rooms from CGI sheets for overhauling and testing of assemblies as per selected layouts. The next task was to fabricate the rack for the storage of dismantled and assembled parts along with inventories. I completed all tasks in four and a half months. In addition to the smooth operation, I implemented 5S Japanese technique (sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain) to maintain workplace healthy. This effort made the section output among the top and I was rewarded with my first ever promotion. I was the youngest in my organization holding a designation of Assistant Manager-Plant. With this promotion, I was being offered the responsibility of another section in the regional workshop. This experience taught me to accept challenges.
