Why ABG is big in our lives
Headed in Mumbai and founded in 1857, Aditya Birla Group is one largest conglomerates in India today. Entering the market with a jute and cotton trading business, Aditya Birla Group also contributed to our independence by actively taking part in various movements led by influential freedom fighters. Post-independence, ABG started establishing its base in other industries
like cement, textile, fashion, telecom and financial services to name a few. Today, ABG is a world leader in industries like cement, carbon black, etc. with over 120,000 employees operating in 35 countries. How did ABG make people's life better and achieve such great success?
The main industry where ABG touched the lives of consumers directly is fashion. Identifying the needs of the customers and giving them exactly what they need is how the group captured its market. Brands like Ralph Lauren, Louis Philippe, VanHeusen, Allen Solly and Forever 21 are considered a status today. Others like People, Pantaloons and Liva are preferred brands among customers. They provide fashion geeks a wide range of apparels and accessories with special collections and attractive offers during festive seasons.
The most popular telecom service provider, Idea, has created a positive impact on the lives of millions of people with the new ‘Idea 4G - India ka Live Network’ concept. Their advertisements, which were both creative and influential, implanted a sense of awareness in the minds of the public about various social and environmental problems existing in the country.
Overcoming Challenges
Aditya Birla Group Leadership Program (ABGLP) is an initiative of ABG which provides various professional services like Group Internship Program (GIP), Leadership Associate Program (LEAP), Leadership Program for Experienced (LEAD), Human Resources Leadership Program (HRLP) and Finance Leadership Program. People providing these services want to make an impact, irrespective of the challenges they face. This reminds me of a recent challenge I faced in January, 2019 and how I handled it.
I was a final year B.Com student and we were just done with the Internal Assessment Exams. Our department faculties called me as soon as I reached college that day and gave me the responsibility of forming and choreographing for the Inter-departmental Aerobics Competition that was in four days. This meant that I had exactly four days to audition people, choose a team of 30 members, come up with a concept for the competition to stand out and make my team perform well while other departments started their practices a month before the event.
I immediately formed a core group of four people to help me with the process and came up with an attractive theme which everybody agreed to. We chose the tracks and split the job of choreographing and teaching our team to make it more efficient. Managing 30 people in a span of four days was fine to an extent, till a few of them started backing out the day before the event. Luckily, we had a few friends in the backup list who were quick learners. The day before the event was hectic as coordinating the moves of 30 people in such a short time was almost impossible. Continuous supervision, motivation and guidance was provided to the team which led to our record-breaking victory in the history of our college’s life.
-A happy consumer, eagerly waiting for more innovative products and services from ABG.
