The values and the achievement of the Aditya Birla Group can be traced back to the inspirational principles and vision of two renowned leaders Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla and Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla who established the foundation of the Group in India and overseas. Today with the plethora of products under its domain, ABG has become a household name.
Earlier, whenever my mom used to ask me what you want to become when you grow up? To which I used to reply that I want to be one of the Tata’s and Birla’s of the country. Least did I know that these two are the names that have revolutionized various industries across the globe. Aditya Birla group has always been around me in a sense that I didn’t even know: Right from ‘the engineer’s choice’ UltraTech cement, to 'India's Most Trusted Apparel Retail Brand’, Pantaloons. From ‘Beginning of good things’, Peter England to Allen Solly, the first Indian brand to introduce work fashion for women. From the fastest growing network, idea cellular to one of the largest network in India, Vodafone Idea Limited. Apart from these ABG is active in 14 industry segments and has accomplished global and national leadership in several businesses.
I have been quite inspired by the values that ABG stands for, Integrity, Passion, Commitment, Seamlessness, and Speed. Admiring such zeal, I am aspiring to implement similar values in my own career goals with a hope to similarly, give shape to a winning team of my own in the future. Driven with such values, I am looking forward to molding my skills and abilities and acquire global perceptive in this arena of business.
Being a millennial, I am arguably the most concerned when it comes to environmental sustainability and social issues. ABG is not only a billion-dollar corporation but a company with a vision to bring about sustainable business practices through its global operations, complementing its economic growth with environmental and societal interests. Thus inspiring me to make a positive difference in the world.
How did I overcome a challenge?
Challenges are a part of routine life. They make us tougher, and without them, life becomes somewhat pointless because we have nothing to compare the good times to. But, irrespective of the challenge, facing up to it is key. Following the successful completion of schooling, I went to pursue BSc in IT from Jai Hind College, Mumbai. Simultaneously, I worked on launching my own start-up, an event and entertainment management firm, called ‘White Wolf’. Getting my business off the ground while still studying full-time was by far one of the most challenging things I ever did in my life.
I’ve always been pretty good in studies, but since I was occupied with my start-up, I did not focus on studies, the classes got challenging, and I found myself falling behind. When I got my final grade for the first year and realized I had scored bad in the class, I immediately went to talk to my professor, and she helped me put together a plan for managing both studies and my startup. Over the course of the next semesters, I went to college every week and asked my professor and friends to help me with my assignments and classes.
After struggling for the first year with that class, I realized that college was going to be much more challenging than high school, so I made sure to carefully look over the syllabus of every class I took and to set up meetings with professors to go through questions and ask for advice. I found that to be a great way of heading off potential problems, and I managed to score good grades post that.
