Overcoming challenges to achieve ambition
Challenges are part of life and if you are not challenging yourself then you are not learning. One of my toughest challenges that I’ve ever faced was to complete my thesis on time during my tenure doing MTECH. I chose my final year thesis topic as “Detection
emotion from face." My mentor gave me 7 days, he wanted me to give him a rough algorithm, flowchart so as to what I can possibly achieve and then he will decide if this could be my thesis topic or not. Those 7 days where the toughest day for me when I tried to read as much research paper I can and at the last day I came up with an algorithm, which then was accepted by my mentor and I was able to convince him. After that the implementation was also harder because I’ve to come up with an application on my own, to write an algorithm or steps to achieve something is actually easier than actually doing it. I tried talking to even professors on LinkedIn, Quora, Facebook wherever I can find them. After that I was able to find one professor who was coming for a technical workshop in ISM Dhanbad and he already had worked in facial recognition before and had published paper on it. I subscribed to the workshop and went there just so I can talk to him about how to go about the project. I was able to get a hold of him during dinner time and discussed with him about my project. To my surprise he was upfront in helping me. In a tissue paper I wrote the algorithm and told him what I wanted to do, he gave me the idea of on how I can develop a part of what I wanted to do and told me about tools
that would help me.
And lastly, I was able to complete my thesis on time with lot of hard work. From, this experience I learnt that there is always multiple way to solve a difficult problem.
