Some brands come and go, while some remain in your memories and for me the Brand “Ralph Lauren” is always there to stay.
This brand is special for me because the first gift I got for my Dad from my salary was a Ralph Lauren Shirt and Pant for my Dad. Although I am not a huge fan of shopping and try skipping it as much as I could some special occasions do demand a special celebration and for me getting my first salary was none less than an occasion. I still remember going to the showroom, having a happy yet confused look on my face, thinking “What should I buy? What would Suit Dad? Will he like it or not?” and then came to my rescue, the superman of the Show-room, the Sales-Man(Well, I consider him a superman because the store would never function without him). He asked me what kind of fabric does your dad like and a plethora of other questions and finally came out with an amazing Shirt and Pant, with which not only my Dad but I also fell in love.
What could be more special than making your parents happy with your first salary and how can you ever forget the Brand which helped you achieve that happiness. From that day onwards, be it any occasion or meeting, my first choice to purchase from is Ralph Lauren and believe it or not, I never had to go any other showroom ever. Well, to conclude I would say” It’s always advisable to judge a brand, not on its winners, but on its losers” and I am Proud of ABG and Ralph Lauren because they have almost zero losers.
Part B: How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far
“Life is not a bed of Roses” and with this said, we become prepared to face the challenges, life throws at us. During my school education days, there came a situation when the family business suffered a huge loss. Citing the poor condition of the business, my father’s partner betrayed him by transferring all the shares of the industry to his own name. Few months after this, my mother was diagnosed with a Stage -3 Breast Cancer for which she had to undergo immediate surgery, Chemo and Radiotherapy.
All the savings were exhausted in the same and there came a time when my father did not have money to pay for the school fees. With my mother on bed rest for next few years and father in depression, I being the only child in the family undertook the responsibility to manage my home, arrange for the school fees and try to excel at studies as it was the 12th standard Board Exams.
Due to a good academic record, the school authorities agreed to let go off my fee for that year and to fund my coaching expenses, I started working as an activity in-charge in some other school, teaching extra-curricular activities to kids of 3rd to 8th standard. I tried to manage the housework, school attendance, study hours and work hours simultaneously which relieved my parents of the stress of my studies. Seeing this, my Dad also got motivated to start a new project which by God’s grace helped us stabilize the family in the next 2 years. They say, “One who doesn’t learn any lesson from the downs of life is a fool” and I too learnt my share of lessons. The first one was never to invest all your money in a single project and try to stagger and generate different sources of incomes. You never know what can to your rescue and when. The second one was trying to gain as much knowledge as you can for the subject you are dealing with as the major cause of failure of Business was lack of knowledge, which prompted me to equip myself with the basics of both technical and now management studies.
