Current Affairs is a very important section in a GD-PI-WAT process. Current affairs topics can be asked in GD & WAT, where you have to discuss with other participants or write a small article on it. Though only a few questions are asked from the candidate during the interview, it tells a lot about the candidate. Also, many times current affairs are asked from candidates with low or no work experience. So, when an interviewer asks a question related to current affairs, his/her motive is to identify whether the candidate has knowledge about his/her surroundings and world affairs or not. After analyzing your knowledge on current affairs, the interviewer moves to another aspect of current affairs, i.e., “ What is your opinion about it?” because till now, you were stating facts, and now the interviewer wants to know about how you perceive the world around you. They want to know your thought process.

Given below are the three examples where the interviewer can ask you a series of questions on current affairs:

Example 1: Domestic Affairs

Interviewer: Do you know about any recent happenings regarding Delhi-UP Border?
(Here the interviewer is judging whether you know about the topic recent happenings)
Answer: Yes, ma’am/sir. Farmers are protesting for many days at the Delhi-UP border.
Interviewer: Why are they protesting?
(Here the interviewer is judging whether you have in-depth knowledge)
Answer: Details on three farm bills passed in 2020
Interviewer: What is your opinion on this whole scenario? Who are the right farmers or government?
(Here, the interviewer is judging how you analyze things and what is your rationale behind the statements you made.)
Answer: In my opinion, ...statements ...rational behind statements
Interviewer: If you were a part of the policymaking, what recommendations will you suggest?
(Here the interviewer is judging do you have the potential to give solutions to real-life problems)
Answer:  I will recommend...
