India has not won the cup, yet, but there are other reasons why I consider it special. Firstly, this is probably the first tournament where India has won all the matches and that too comprehensively, at the group stage to qualify into the semis. Secondly, the official theme song is in Bengali, which makes me bloom with pride and joy. The world, finally and officially gets to taste the “Sholoana Bangaliyana” (the true blue Bengali) flavour.
But let me confess, I was initially lethargic to write this stuff, as it had no juicy content. I mean, let’s get real, the topic is intrinsically mundane. ICC World T20 is in the news and is definitely special to many! But the reason why I managed to overcome my lethargy was the emphatic victory over the Aussies. Personally, I value the victory over the Aussies more than the over-hyped victory over Pak. Aussies have been barbaric and ruthless for ages, be it in their on-field performance or verbal volleys (read sledging). Although, i have a huge respect for the standards they set on field, but the teases, taunts, caricatures, media busting are too much to digest. And that is why opponents hammer brickbats whenever they falter. The recent “Gaylenam” style dance and PDA (Public Display of Anger) by the Windies proves my observation. The taunting on-field troll by MSD (in Hindi), where he asks Sir Jadeja to bowl a slower, flighted delivery and see whether Hodge can smack it for a six, gave me immense pleasure. Why? Because payback is a bitch! If you have not been a viewer, Hodge indeed smacked the ball, only to get caught out in long on.
Dear Brad Hodge, it was a booby trap!
Anyways, back to my topic, kudos to Team India for putting up such a brilliant performance. I wish MSD and his boys repeat the incident in circa 2007. But before I put my pen down, this immensely talented Bangladeshi team of composers deserves a very special mention:
Singers: Elita, Kona, Puja, Pantho Kanai, Johan Alamgir, Kaushik, Sanvir Shekh, Tanvir Al-huda
Music: Fuad Al Muqtadir
Lyrics: Refayat Ahmed & Anam Biswas
The lyrics of the song is copied and pasted below, but guys, if you are reading this, i would like to say a big THANK YOU! Being a Bengali, it fills me with immense pride and joy, to hear a Bengali song and talent being officially recognised on a global platform! Once again, THANK YOU guys!
