I had sown the seeds of my dreams when I got admission at MDI, Gurgaon. It took time to sink in that I had really made it to my dream B-school, one of the premier colleges of India. The feeling of awe and wonder (which disappeared after school) made a way back in my life. I had come thinking my cup was full, only to realize that the cup that I was holding was too small.
But soon after putting my first few steps at MDI, a strange feeling of fear and self-doubt engulfed me and I realized that living up to the reputation of MDI would be a humongous task in itself. My inner inhibitions started pulling my down and I was left in a state of despair. This was my state of mind when I had my first lecture of Marketing Planning. Our Professor, Mr. Panjawani, entered the classroom and during his brief introduction we came to know that he is also an alumnus of a premier Indian B- school. He started speaking with us, not as a professor, but as a senior who had gone through the same journey that we had embarked upon he shared with his experiences and how he managed to pass out from his B- school with flying colors. His words touched me deeply and filled me with positivity and enthusiasm. All my worries vanished and I realized that anything can be achieved with determination and hard work.
My vigor was restored and with this inspiration in my mind, I went ahead for the class and to my amazement it became one of the most memorable experiences of my student life. Professor, not only made us understand the nuances of Statistical methods and its importance in business analytics. I learnt that just like a coin has two sides, similarly every situations needs to be analyzed from different perspectives to reach to an informed decision. Queries and doubts raised by each of the students were discussed by the professor throughout the duration of the class. This experience taught me that peer interaction is an integral part of a holistic learning approach. By the end of the class, all the doubts and fear encroaching my mind had vanished and I came out as a changed, a better person.
My first class experience was a far cry from what I had feared and indeed was an enriching experience for me. It will certainly help me to sharpen my skills and instill confidence in me.
Given an opportunity, I intend to be associated with Idea Cellular Ltd. What struck a chord with me were the HR policies of the company. Their focus on employee welfare through specialized appraisal schemes and emphasis on career progression of the employees is commendable.
Another motivation to be a part of this prestigious organization is it’s Social Responsibility activities. Corporate Responsibility has come up as a significant subject matter in the business community and is progressively becoming a mainstream activity. A CSR project started by Idea Cellular, “Roshini: Digital Learning and Empowerment of Women” for promoting digital literacy among rural women, is one such commendable initiative by this ABG company. I look forward to having an opportunity to join Idea Cellular Ltd.
