While taking a walk in our campus, one may not only feel like an IIM campus but something more to the pleasure of nature gazers (Me being one of them). The campus is located in the edge of the northern plains (foothills of the Himalayas) in the mountain state of Uttarakhand (Which lies in the Terai region). On a clear day, the mountains of Nainital are visible from the campus. The clouds hovering over and across the edges of the mountains offer spectacular scenes for the onlookers to fix their sight for an indefinite amount of time. It feels like one is exposed to the ‘theatre of nature’. One is caught in the world of three primary colors, the RED bricks erected upon the GREEN grasslands under the wide and BLUE sky. The experiences are unique in different seasons throughout the year. The reflection of these colors appeals to the eyes on any day. A walk from the academic block back to hostel rooms on a sunny evening gives a refreshing experience after a series of lectures throughout the day.
The Mess is one of the best places in the campus to spend some time with friends over a meal. The mess consists of transparent glass frames on all sides that offer a glimpse of the academic block. Within the mess is the table tennis facility which is one of the major sporting activities in the institute. Also, the presence of a television creates an atmosphere of excitement especially during any sporting events. A large number of students gather around the television cheering for their favorite sides which is often accompanied by pangs of excitement. Talking about more of the sporting events, the campus has dedicated facilities for futsal, basketball, badminton and volleyball. Cricket is played in the open grass fields along with Frisbee while a dedicated tennis facility is coming up.
The campus has an open amphitheater for cultural activities. This is a dream place for the music and dance lovers as it provides an appropriate ambience to display the singing and dancing talent. The most unique aspect of the hostel blocks is that it provides rooms on the basis of single occupancy. One hostel block consists of four floors with six rooms on each floor. There is a common dormitory shared by the six rooms and it comprises of a refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, and a water purifier. A square table with six chairs is provided for interactions and discussions. This area also facilitates many indoor activities such as role-plays, presentations, discussions, knowledge sharing and meetings. This kind of infrastructure enables an environment of learning and team building which is most essential for management students of today and business leaders of tomorrow. This was a small description of the campus of IIM Kashipur campus which is definitely one of the most unique and beautiful campuses across the country.
Which ABG company would one want to work for and why?
I would choose Aditya Birla Capital from amongst Aditya Birla Group as a company to work in. The rationale behind this choice is that I am specializing in Operations management with Finance as minor. Subjects such as Lean Management practices, Quality Management and Six Sigma, Financial Risk Measurement etc are included in my specialization which is essential in the finance industry. Since ABC is one among the top five non-banking financial institutions, it would be an ideal place for me to apply my theoretical learning thus aligning my career goals with the goals of the company.
