Interview Date: 7th March, 2019. Venue: Kenilworth Hotel, Kolkata. We had a GD followed by a WAT on the same topic. The topic was “Good marks are not a reflection of high IQ”. We were given 2 minutes to think, 6 minutes for the GD and another 7 minutes for WAT. Although the GD started a bit off track, we managed to get back to the topic. Most of us were able to put forward our views. In case of the WAT, we had to write either for or against the topic. So, I quickly chose “For the topic” and jotted down a few points. This was followed by PI. I was the second member in my panel. There were three professors. (P1,P2 and P3) P1: What was your CAT percentile ? And XAT ? Me: Told. P1: So, you didn’t get a call from XLRI? Me: No sir, I could not clear one of the sectionals. P1: So, what other calls do you have ? Me: IIM CAP Calls, MDI, NMIMS, SIBM, SCMHRD. P1: So, you are an Oracle DBA ? You must be good with data. Me: Yes, sir. P2: Okay, so let me ask you a few questions while Sir (P1) prepares a question for you. Why do you think Rabindra Sangeet is so popular all over the world ? Me: Answered about the versatility, the volume which encompasses all aspects of life, and also how it is relevant to the modern day. P2: Those are generic reasons. Personally, I feel that it is popular since it is played at all traffic signals across the world. What is your take on this ? Me: I beg to differ on this, Sir. I think it is played at many traffic signals in Bengal, but I am not sure if it is played all over the world. P2: Okay, tell me some current affairs. Me: Told about the ongoing issue about Rafael deal. P2: (Seemed dissatisfied). Do you know what is Bumble ? Me: Told. Also mentioned about the full front page advertisement in TOI that day. P2: So, who is the founder of Bumble? Me: (Was not sure of the founder). But managed to tell that Priyanka Chopra is one of the major investors in this app. P2: So, what is the full name of Priyanka Chopra ? What is her husband’s name ? Me: Answered. P2: So, do you watch hollywood movies? Where is Hollywood located ? Where does Nick Jonas come from? Me: (Just managed to utter hollywood is one the cities in the US, but not too confident regarding the other answers.) P2: Okay, so who is your favourite actress in Bollywood? Me: Deepika Padukone. P2: Why? Me: Told about her versatility and how she has managed to act in different roles etc. P2: Dont lie, you like her because she is beautiful, don’t you? Me: Agreed to it partly, but again told the same reasons. P2: Okay, so who is her father? Me: Prakash Padukone, Sir. P2: Who is he? Which sport is he associated with ? Me: Badminton, Sir. P2: Okay, which award has he won recently? Me: I am not aware of this, Sir. P2: You follow any other sport? Me: I follow Indian cricket. P2: Okay, what is CoA? Me: (Forgot the full form, but told it is associated with BCCI. P2 seemed dissatisfied.) P1: Okay, please solve this. (Gave me a list of values with their frequencies and asked me to calculate the mean) Me: Solved it. P1: Are you sure? Me: Yes, Sir. P3: Okay, what is this called in probability? Me: (Could not understand the question. Just told him about the concept of weighted average. P3 seemed dissatisfied.) P3: Okay, we are done. Me: Thank you Sir. Overall, I felt a bit uncomfortable at times. But, it was a good learning experience. Verdict : Converted!
