My journey at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar began on the 18th of June, 2018, with equal amounts of excitement and trepidation. This kept increasing by leaps and bounds each day as I started walking along these hallowed halls. The pressure here was palpable from the onset as we had to complete two case studies along with presentations, group discussions, visume preparation and many more tasks in just one week simultaneously with over eight hours of orientation each day. Among these tasks came an opportunity-to attend the MarkQuiz’18, the annual marketing quiz organised by MAXIM, the marketing association of XIMB. My roommate and I teamed up together and made the team ‘Tango-N-Cash’, where we had to go up against 360 of our batch mates in an online quiz round. It was a puzzle with 20 out of the box questions testing our cross-functional, practical and general knowledge characterised over the marketing domain. The time limit of 10 minutes proved to be another constraint. After giving the quiz we were not very hopeful as we couldn’t answer all of them. But when the results were out we were thrilled. Our happiness couldn’t be contained as we stood 1st. This would be the spark that lit the fire within us to go forth and up against any team henceforth. It also gave me the understanding that, along with adequate knowledge, you also need an efficient balance between your accuracy and time managing skills. This mind set made Tango-N-Cash confident and we went ahead to win two more quizzes in the following weeks, 1st position at Conquest’18, the annual quiz by CONSTRAT, the Consultancy and Strategy association of XIMB, followed by runners-up at HARAMBE Quiz by LITSOC, the Literary society of XIMB. Attaining victory at 3 quizzing events in under a month instilled in me the passion for quizzing and also the skillset that these competitions provide. I realised that no aim is too large and no dream is too big. It is with this confidence that I intend to walk my path and blaze my trail during my 2 years of MBA. - Udatta Ganguly, XIMB, Batch of 2018-20
