First of all, congratulations are in order to all the XAT toppers!! With XAT results out, calls for XLRI BM and HR interviews will soon be flowing in and you will be taking your next step towards stepping your dream b-school-XLRI-top b-school of India consistently being ranked in top 4. Not only that, XLRI is the best in the whole of Asia when it comes to HR. Hence, students invariably fill HR also (not because they are interested in HR :P) because it will be MBA in HR from XLRI. However, the two interviews of XLRI BM and HR are quite different from each other. As I have given both the interviews, I think I can provide some insights about how the interviews differ.
XLRI-BM
You will be formed into groups of 7-8 and then you will be seated in a room. Your WAT will be taken in that room itself followed by a GD on the same topic. The panelists will be observing you meanwhile (might be making funny faces to distract you :D. Better not to look at them.) Then you will be called in for Personal Interview one by one.
PI for BM will mostly revolve around your academics and/or your work experience. It is highly likely that the panelists will ask you your favourite subject and then start throwing questions of that subject around you. They will try to confuse you. So, be well versed with 2-3 subjects and hold your ground. Same goes for people with work experience. They also had to face academic questions despite having work experience.
Be careful about what you say in GD. If you make an “out of the box” point, be ready to justify that point to the panelists.
Then the panelists might move on to your hobbies. It is one of their favourite areas. The interview generally goes on for 15-20 minutes.
XLRI-HRM
WAT-GD will be on similar lines to BM with similar topics generally coming out of current affairs.
The HR interview is quite the opposite of the BM interview.
It has nothing to do with your academics or work experience. They are more focused on who you are- the challenges you have faced in life, how you overcame them and what they taught you. The panelists here want to understand your psychology. They will ask you about your state, the challenges faced by your state and how you have done something to contribute to overcoming that challenge.
They might ask you about your hobbies and how your hobbies relate to the world of HR.
If you have calls for both BM and HR, they will certainly ask you which one will you go for and why. If you are not inclined towards HR, don’t lie to them as they will catch your lie if you try to give some false justification.
The interview can be a stress interview going on for a little longer duration of around 40 minutes. The panelists will be concerned about your opinions and your justification for them.
Be confident and remember to smile!! You will sail through
All the best!!
P.S. XAT 99.139 percentiler and XLRI-HR convert.
