ABG is big in my life and this is in no way an overstatement. The foundations of my house have been laid by UltraTech cement and to talk about the reach of the brand, my father when questioned about the usage of the cement brand, invariably said that there is nothing better than UltraTech cement and he had the numbers backing his claim! At Saharanpur, we have been blessed enough to have Pantaloons which caters to all our needs for the best quality and premium products in Fashion retail at affordable prices. IDEA has been a constant presence in our families because of its services and the abilities to adapt to a changing environment. I have entered into MBA life with high expectations and here I am, writing my first article since coming to MDI Gurgaon on such an inspiring conglomerate ABG and its significance. The impacts, to say the least, have been immense.
How Have you made an Impact?
Odds and challenges have always been an integral part of everyone’s lives and the way we deal with them define us. I would like to take the opportunity to share two demanding tasks that I have faced and tackled.
Back in my prep school, I used to stutter and the constant embarrassing, humiliating and debilitating feeling never left me whenever I was having conversations in public spaces and one on ones. Addressing a crowd was an improbable task. Confidence and social personality took a toll and I always tried avoiding conversations. Multiple pieces of advice from teachers and families started pouring in when the confidence was stopping lower and lower. I started talking to myself in the mirror and did a detailed analysis to find out the problematic areas. Also, I had realized that it wasn’t just the fear of stuttering but also fear of people’s reactions. I worked harder on the analysed areas and slowly things started shaping up in my favour. By class Sixth, I had won numerous accolades in elocution contests at school level and won “Best Speaker Award” during my summer internship in Engineering. Today I talk as much and as confidently as I can and help someone who is in a similar stage. I proudly look back to see that I didn’t let early humiliations inhibit my natural urge to keep going.
Another instance was of class Eighth. I was supposed to take National Science Olympiad at National Level. It was my 1st pan India competition and the intimidation had gripped me. Initially, I was struggling to find confidence and how good I would prove to be. I thought that all these performances would unleash a new field of opportunities for me and I decided to go with it with maximum efforts. In the end, I secured an AIR of 259 with my first scholarship of 250 Rs. Competing with brilliant minds from all over the country at such an early age gave me the required confidence to never back away from the challenges and a belief there is always a possibility to defy the odds.
These two stories are not success stories for me. These two stories help me in reiterating and re-learning the fact that “It ain’t about how hard you hit: It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”.
