Does it matter? Probably no!
It was just the beginning. What followed in the coming weeks was way more taxing. It was raining PORs and preprocesses! Quite literally!
Ten days in a premier b-school, and you know the importance of PORs, or Positions Of Responsibility. For all those of you, who are already a part of the b-school Community, you probably know what I am talking about. And as for the MBA aspirants or potential candidates, allow me to show you around.
Every good b-school comes with not just a good brand name, placement records and exhausting academics. It brings with it a plethora of opportunities to learn, through clubs, committees and fests. All of them have their own set of selection procedures, conducted by the senior members of the team. The value addition is in terms of exposure, real life application of management concepts, personality growth, networking and a good CV point of course. They also form a fine talking point, especially in your summer placements, and can even be the game changer, for a few, or so they say.
There is a lot to choose from. At planet-I, there is something for everybody. From domain specific clubs like marketing, finance, economics and what not.. to Student Committees working to make life at Planet-I easier by a notch, and finally, the fests with verticals like sponsorship, participation, finance, events etc.
Being an aspiring marketer, I applied to the Marketing Club, brimming with gusto and optimism. Soon enough an e-mail popped up. Contents? A long pre-process and a deadline that was "sacrosanct". What followed next was a series of rounds including group tasks, group discussions, personal interview and finally the elections! Luckily, I fared well and made the cut.
But all is not rosy always. Amidst quizzes, assignments, compulsory seminars, resume-building are the missed deadlines and rejections (I had my own share), that form a part and parcel of the process.
All in all, it has been an exhausting and enriching experience (though I am sure some of my peers would not agree). As seniors often say, it was a sneak-peak into the placement season coming up soon. So while tougher times await us, in this world of sacrosanct deadlines and EODs, of assignments and preprocesses, of quizzes and mandatory haunt attendance, grudgingly or not, we are all growing up, in our own way, prepping for the placements and the corporate life that lurks not far behind.
