Type of Recruitment : Summer Placements

    Type of Offer : Internship

    Position, Domain/Function: Corporate Finance

    Actual Experience :
Group Discussion-What is the implications for FMCG companies in the current macroeconomic situation in India?

Interview:They started off by saying- Tell me something about yourself.then they asked me-Why work in corporate finance?
they also ask me my Strengths and Weaknesses and an example of a situation where you showed leadership. They didnt ask me anything related to finance. I had a CA degree so that might have meant that they did not want to ask domain specific questions. They asked me specifically to tell them about my earlier internship.

Parts of the Interview I did not do well: Interview went fine, offers were limited to 2, so I think it was just that there were better candidates – nothing wrong as such with my answers

    Final Verdict- Not offered

    Then I was asked-

Parts of the Interview I did well- Been myself. Instead of the general bookish answer I said what my weakness and strengths are. Worked.

    Final Verdict: Offered
Anything you would like to add: BE yourself. When they look for fit they want you and not what you can be.

Group Discussion- Topic : The topic- The company wants to double the sale of Bournville chocolate by the next year. What should they do?
Instructions: We were told to discuss the problems for the first 15 minutes and solutions for the next 15. Moreover, we were told to discuss the case as consumers and not as marketing students. We were also given a Bournville and a dairy milk
The discussion initially was about the slightly bitter taste of the chocolate. I made my first point when we were about 10 mins into the discussion and it was about how it is easy to open a bournville compared to a regular dairy milk (till then i was busy eating the chocolates and observing the wrapper). I made only 2 entries in the whole 30 minute discussion and was told after the GD to add something if i wanted to. I was the only one from the group who made it to the next round.

Interview: I was in my usual light mood and wanted to make the interview ligt as well. Following is the exact transcript of what happened between me and the interviewer-
    Q: How was the GD?
    A: It was good…i earned a bournville. 🙂

Q: you came across as someone who has lots of ideas but does not like to push them enough. Give me two instances where you pursued your ideas to till the end.
    A: gave two situations

Q: I’m still not satisfied. Now give me a situation where your idea was not accepted by the group.

Q: Do you always go with the group or take stand?
A: (note this phrase) ‘There are no shades of grey in matters of integrity’…but when it comes to ideas I always settle for the best solution.

Q: What would you like to sell? Shampoo or chocolates.
A: told them that i have been saying for a long time that…after all these years of studying i will never sell soaps and shampoos (made the interview really light)

    Q: why MBA – Marketing
A: Explained my previous work ex- sector(shipping) in relation to it.

Q: what will you do in summers?
A: I will sell dairy milk.
    Q: no no…tell me seriously
A: I said i only have a four odd month knowledge of marketing. only recently i have found out that sales and marketing are two different things. So i’ll just see for real as to what happens in the company. Saying anything else would be just not true.

Parts of the Interview I did well:Went through the full CV. I have a couple of entrepreneurial ventures and had to give details of both and justify that I won’t leave the company.

    Final Verdict: Offered

Anything else you would like to add:
    – Don’t unnecessarily blabber in the GD. Only speak when you have a genuine point.
    – Be truthful, calm and composed in the interview.
    – If you can then crack jokes. It makes the interview less tensed.

How would my friends describe me in 3 words
How would the peopl who don’t like me at all describe me
what all things I want to change about myself. Why cadbury’s corp fin. why not something else in fin

They asked me about the projects in my CV
Asked about Finance project on tata motors. why they have negative working capital. is it good or bad.
3 main insights you got from your (mark) project on icici bank

About the paper I wrote- Tell us about this paper you wrote on Indian Economy.
About the club I was a part of.

    Final Verdict: Offered

Anything else you may like to add: My interview and GD both went fine. But at times during th e interview i couldn’t convey all the gyaan properly. They chose people who were CA and CS as corp fin is mostly Accounting. HR was very very nice. Just make valid points in GD.

    Type of Offer : Internship

    Position, Domain/Function: Sales and Marketing

    Actual Experience :

Group Discussion- The topic was to choose between two actual expansion plans being considered by the company. The choice was between launching cakes or opening a cafe. We had to discuss which of the alternatives is better and reach a consensus. There were 8 people in all. We discussed the various parameters on which we would evaluate the two options and then evaluate the two options accordingly. We did a good job, could not reach a consensus but discussed mostly all the points keeping in mind the brand, its consumer base, its existing capabilities, and the long term and short term profitability of each.

    Interview:
The interviewer was the brand manager of chocolates in Cadbury. It was a very relaxed process. started with tell me something about yourself and the typical why marketing questions.
It then went on to my CV and a project during my workex which was on the Soy industry. Cadbury had certain soy products whihc were not doing well. So we discussed about how and why can the soy market grow. The interviewer was helping me throughout and guided my answers.
We then discussed a few other marketing projects listed on my CV in great details. Apart from this he asked me the importance of digital marketing and how it can be leveraged.

Parts of the Interview I did well: He was not looking at jargons and asked me my perspective on all the questions as a consumer. The interview lasted for close to 40 minutes and he was helping me continuously for thinking in the correct direction. They were looking for people with keen interest in marketing and their understanding of it as consumers.

Type of Offer : Full- Time Hire

    Position, Domain/Function: Sales and Marketing

    Actual Experience :

Group Discussion: I couldnt be part of the normal GD process due to my TAS process, but I had a gd-interview where 2 panelists gave me about 4-5 topics and asked my views on each. The topics I remember are- 1.)youth icon for India, 2.) suppose you are a high level minister in India and the issue ( like the Kandhar) is that a plane has been hijacked which has both dignitaries and others and the terrorists are asking for release of a few prisoners and money in exchange what will u do, 3.) suppose a new country has to chose a government, would you recommend India style of governance or Chinese

Interview: They asked me some HR questions like about yourself, why cadbury, some leadership position that u have taken up, one of ur biggest achievements in the past 1 year( most of the time was spent on it)

They also asked about my summers project

Parts of the Interview I did well at :
    Energy and confidence and interest

    Verdict : Offered

Anything else you may want to add?
Being aggressive in GD is not the selection criteria. Make meaningful, relevant inputs 3 or 4 times, that is more than enough. Everybody were asked to summarize in the end, there you get chance to show your listening and articulating skills. So can gain brownie point there if you add meaningfully.
