Selection Criteria

The admission process at IIM Nagpur for the batch of 2020-22 will be carried out in 3 stages and will consider the candidate’s performance in Common Admission Test (CAT) 2019, Past Academic Performance (PAP), Work Experience (WE), Diversity (DI), and performance in Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). The details are mentioned in the following sections.

3.1. Stages in the process

  • Stage 1: Candidates who had indicated their interest in IIM Nagpur at the time of filling CAT application forms will be first screened for eligibility as per the CAT cut-offs mentioned in Stage 1 of the process. Candidates who clear the CAT cut-off would then be asked to re-confirm their interest in IIM Nagpur.
  • Stage 2: Candidates who meet the CAT cut-offs and have reconfirmed their interest in IIM Nagpur will move to Stage 2, where Comprehensive Score (CS) will be calculated for all such candidates. A CS-based shortlist will be generated to call candidates for Stage 3 – Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). Candidates who are shortlisted for PI/WAT will be required to fill a detailed application form before appearing for the interview.
  • Stage 3: Candidates who appear for the PI/WAT will be considered for this stage, where the Final Score (FS) will be calculated. Admission offers will be sent to the candidates based on their FS.

Stage 1: Eligibility criteria for admission to PGP 2020-22

The CAT cut-offs shown in Table 2 will be used for selecting eligible candidates for all subsequent stages. The CAT-2019 score is the single criterion used as the basis for arriving at the first short-list. Only candidates with positive scores (>0) in all sections of the CAT will be considered for the admission process.

2This is the maximum CAT score among the candidates who were eligible for admission process in IIMN as per the stage 1 criteria.

Here, we evaluate the applicants’ academic performance (marks obtained) in the 10th Standard Examination, 12th Standard Examination, and Bachelor’s Degree Examination. The eligible applicants, as identified above, will be assigned rating scores ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ (See Table 3.1-3.3) based on the percentage of marks obtained in their 10th Standard, 12th Standard, and Bachelor’s Degree examinations respectively.

This is the maximum CAT score among the candidates who were eligible for admission process in IIMN as per the stage 1 criteria.

PAP Score for the candidate will be calculated as follows:

PAP = (0.25*A+0.35*B+0.40*C)

  1. Work Experience (WE)

The total number of months of work experience completed, x (as on July 31, 2019) across organizations, will be considered to assign a WE score as per Table 4. For example, if a candidate has a total work experience of 13 months and 25 days, it will be considered as 13 months. Parallel work experience will not be considered. Only full-time experience after graduation will be considered. Part-time/Project/Internship/ CA Articleship /Pre-graduation work experience will not be counted as work experience. For work experience in multiple organizations, all the durations will be added to arrive at the total experience.

Table 4: Work Experience (WE): Rating Scores

Work – Experience (in months) Rating Score
x<6 0
6<=x<18 4
18<=x<24 6
24<=x<30 8
30<=x<36 10
x>=36 4
  1. Diversity (DI)

A diversity score (DI) out of 10 will be calculated for the candidate based on the candidate’s gender, and bachelor’s degree. The gender diversity score of 5 points will be awarded based on the candidate’s gender (0 for male, 5 for female, and 5 for transgender candidates) and 5 points will be awarded for the candidate’s bachelor’s degree in any of the following: BA, BA(H), B.Sc., B.Sc.(H), BS, B.Com, B.Com(H), BCA, BBA, B. CS = 0.30 * (CAT Score) + 0.35*(PAP Score) + 0.20* (WE Score) + 0.15*(Di Score)

Based on the comprehensive score (CS), a shortlist will be prepared, and the shortlisted candidates will be receiving an email/communication from IIM Nagpur around the first/second week of April 2020. Stage 3: Final Selection of the Candidates

The candidates who have been shortlisted based on the Comprehensive Score, submit the completed application by the stipulated deadline, and appear for the PI/WAT process will be considered for the final stage of the admission process.

Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT)
Candidates who are shortlisted and have submitted the application form will be required to appear for a Personal Interview (PI) / Written Ability Test (WAT) to be conducted by IIM Nagpur. The interviews are likely to be scheduled in April/May 2020. The PI and WAT scores for all the candidates appearing for this stage will be scaled between 0 to 10.

After the completion of PI and WAT, the Final Score (FS) of the candidate will be calculated as follows:

FS = 0.40* (PI Score) + 0.10*(WAT Score) + 0.15* (CAT Score) + 0.15 * (PAP Score) + 0.20 * (WE Score)

The selection at this stage will strictly be based on the ranks of the candidates computed separately for each category (General/EWS/NC-OBC/SC/ST/DAP) based on their Final Scores (FS). The numbers selected in different categories will be in proportions mandated by the law.
