It was on the occasion of India’s 69th Independence Day that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced the Start-up India initiative from the ramparts of India’s iconic Red Fort. Just five months later, on the16th January, the PM unveiled the historic Start-up Action Plan. During the seminar, he made a statement, “When I heard Ritesh (Aggarwal of Oyo) speak, I thought how a tea seller like me didn’t think of setting up a hotel chain.” His statement reflects the belief and passion of India’s new start-up generation. We at E-cell IIM Trichy hope to leverage this drive by instilling the same passion into the IIM Trichy ecosystem to enable the birth of the next unicorn.
Entrepreneurship is always a creative mind’s dream. The world is changing its dynamics and the economies are looking towards the Start-ups. On these lines, E-Cell of IIM Trichy is making progress to promote Entrepreneurship among the student fraternity by bringing the striving entrepreneurs to the students and conducting events which give rise to the spirit of entrepreneurship among the students of IIM Trichy.
Over the course of the last year, we have conducted a series of guest lectures from industry stalwarts such as Mr. Mahesh Ramachandran, a Sloan distinguished fellow of London School of Business and the co-founder and MD of CommonWealth Inclusive Growth Services Ltd. We also had Mr. Jithamithra Thatachari, an alumni of IIM Ahmedabad and co-founder of Rouse Digital discuss on the contemporary topic of Entrepreneurial Innovation. Through these series of guest lectures we aimed to demystify the complexities that go into starting up and how innovation plays a key role in sustaining any new venture.
E-cell IIM Trichy was also actively involved during IIMT flagship Business School festival, Arcturus 4.0, which showcased the talent pool of top b-schools around the country fighting it out for top honours. The club conducted the event ‘Explorica’, a live case study of a start-up, LocalOye, a hyperlocal aggregator based out of Bangalore. The participants had to come up with innovative solutions based on the problem statements provided by the organization.
Apart from this, we at E-cell have been involved in start-up seminars, such as the IIMnetWORK which provides a platform for panel discussions by start-up gurus and new ventures pitching their ideas to VCs. Through such platforms we wish to strengthen our reach to the thriving start-up community with an aim to engage with them in the future. We have also been actively promoting start-up activities such as the Prime Minister’s address at our campus.
2015 has been a great year for the E-cell team with a lot of seminars, guest lectures and competitions held across the country. We have many more activities lined up for the coming months and aspire to make 2016 even more successful, through e-summits, start-up week, and many more exciting initiatives to look forward to.
