The Place We Call Home – IIM Udaipur – Chandrika Bulusu
Spread over a sprawling 300 acres of land, IIM Udaipur is the youngest palace in the Royal state of Rajasthan. The palace we have been calling home for over a year now!
The campus which sits magnificently, on the hills of the Aravalli Range, would take anyone by surprise, not just by the mammoth, yet remarkable architecture and the greenery surrounding it, but also in the way it pops out of nowhere in the midst of Balicha. The campus welcomes each new batch towards the end of June, when it is at its peak of beauty, flaunting the greenery surrounding it, and mesmerizing all with a perfect view of sunrise. A view which has the power to turn even the laziest of us into an early bird, because there can be nothing better than watching the sun rise over these hills, with a cup of coffee in one’s hand, I repeat nothing!
The campus which is located in the city of lakes, Udaipur, is all set to get five lakes of its own, which would not only add to the beauty of the campus but also contributes towards environmental sustainability, one of the core values the Institute thrives on.
The hostel block which is currently hosting over 500 students, has each cluster named after a fort of Rajasthan, this is in line with the royal lineage of the state our palace is located in. The hostel block has a road leading towards the main gate, which acts as a perfect evening getaway for the students from the hustle and bustle of their daily schedules.
The place which is a quiet land of learning in the daytime, with all its students packed away in the classrooms, learning something exciting each day, comes to life right after dinner and then never really sleeps. The place that acts as the heart of the college is the mess area, with students celebrating birthdays in groups, to completing assignments late into the night the stairs right outside this place is never really empty. There is some constant jibber jabber going on there, ranging from “classroom gyaan” to the latest gossip.
There is a positive energy in this place that keeps its students going, even after the most stressful and tiring of days. The life of any campus is its students but in our case the land we live pumps in the same energy into us as we do to it.
